The END of the G.O.A.T. Debate

100% agreed. He won those 2 fights but he was clearly getting much slower at that point. I think if he walked away after werdum or bigfoot it would be justified and not too much a detriment because he was clearly out of his prime and everyones day comes. Now he has been around far too long.

Yes for sure man

I knew this was bullshit when you listed Jordan as having one peak year and Fedor as having 6 peak years

Simply said that was his best season. Jordan was obviously the best player in the NBA from 1989 - 1996

A-level athletes don't "lose their prime" at 30, and certainly don't lose to MWs! LOL!!!!!!!
Didn't GSP get KO'ed by a lightweight at age 26, while UFC champ?

Fedor only lost AFTER 10 years of being the best fighter in the world.

One lost after prime. One lost before and during. 2 best fighters ever but all the experts give the edge to Fedor

Don't forget : or getting beaten up by Bigfoot, or submitted by Werdum, or fighting cans like Hong Man Choi, Zuluzinho, and Jaideep Singh.

I mean if you wanna fling mud I can join ya....

GSP - Lost in the dead center of his prime to a glorified journeyman. The story doesn't end there tho.... He got his has floored an tapped to strikes.

Anderson - Popped for steroids TWICE and got brutally KO'd while mocking his opponent.

Fedor fought in some freak show fights for $$$ and lost at the tail end of his career. Mind you Ali fough Inoki and McGregor fought Mayweather for same reason.

Anderson - Most UFC title defenses in a deep weight class. Made peope look dumb lke no other fighter ever has.

that's wrong
Heh. Ya that is laughably wrong.

MW when Anderson took it over was one of the weakest divisions in UFC history.

Fact : Franklin as Champ only had two defenses before losing the belt in Nate Rock Quarry and David the Crow before losing the belt. These were the best at MW at the time.

Fact : Anderson got a title shot at MW via fan vote after only one fight at MW against Chris Leben because their was no one else worthy. Franklin had cleaned out the division with the aforementioned wins. The division was that thin.

Fact : After Anderson beat Franklin, he also had cleaned out the division and there was no worthy at MW to challenge him for the title. This despite the fact that Anderson had only had two fights in the UFC (Leben and Franklin).

Fact : Seeing the weakness in the division some top MW's like Hendo and Vitor parachuted in from other org's seeing a quick route to a title shot. This gave the division finally some much needed strength as prior guys like Nate Marquardt were being rushed to title shots before they were ready, and before their perceived prime, simply because there was no one else.

Fact : Once MW finally started to firm up and attract a true top level roster of MW talent who had to push each other to earn title shots (post strikeforce acquisition) Anderson lost in his fight versus this new top level talent that had FINALLY arrived at MW.

I think very few can argue with this. Sounds about right.

Maybe if it was one loss. It wasn't. He lost to overly green Werdum and Silva, and who knows who else he would've lost to if he didn't wisely run off. Fedor faced very little competition, and at the end of the day any smart person realizes what little competition he faced wasn't even that great. MMA was new so it's to be expected, and now he's losing to guys like Mitrione and Maldonado that are just as old as he is. Sad!

Fedor is no doubt a pioneer, but the GOAT he isn't close to.

I disagree, but please share why you think so.

Peaks - If Fedor's peak is being listed as 2003-2009 GSP's would be 2002-2017, minus the 4 year hiatus.

Accomplishments - Fedor
PRIDE Heavyweight Championship (One time; Last)
PRIDE 2004 Heavyweight World Grand Prix Champion
RINGS Openweight Championship (One time; Last)
RINGS 2001 Absolute Class Tournament Winner
RINGS 2001 Openweight Title Tournament Winner
WAMMA Heavyweight Championship (One time; First; Last)

GSP
UFC Middleweight Championship (One time, current)
UFC Welterweight Championship (Two times)
Interim UFC Welterweight Championship (One time, first)
Most successful/consecutive title defenses in the UFC welterweight division (9)
Most wins in UFC history (20) - tied with Michael Bisping

Given the organization both competed in I find GSP's accomplishments and competition to be more impressive.

Longevity - GSP has been competing at a higher level for longer.

Unbelievable Feats/Wow Moments/Shockers/Whatever the fuck else you wanna call the "it" factor some athletes have - debatable

Clean and didn't cheat - They're the same in this category.

Good shit, but you didn't change my mind.

Fedor is no doubt a pioneer, but the GOAT he isn't close to.

GSP was smashed by Hendricks and retired at 32. He has only beaten Bisping since

Had he continued fighting dangerous opponents the last 4 years he likely would have lost just like Fedor, Anderson, BJ, Chuck and all the greats who fight past their prime.

Fedor was the best in the world for 10 years and beat many great fighters and dangerous fighters. If you have ever watched sports you would know an athlete's career cannot last forever. At some point injuries and mileage add up. GSP even said he retired at 32 because of all the pressure. Nobody can keep it up forever.

Not to mention Bigfoot had already failed for roids before that fight and was a monster that night. Hendo was on TRT. Those guys were monsters on top of Fedor being past his.prime.

As for Fabio, how is that any different than Hendricks vs GSP?

Long live the Emperor.

He will win the Bellator HW tourney and ride of into the sunset wearing his glorious sweater of absolute victory!

WAR FEDOR !!!!!

Jesus christ dude just stop. Hendricks was as legit as it gets before he fell off. Once again Fedor doesn't have the names, and he certainly doesn't have the skill if you're look at it from that perspective. He is literally Ronda Rousey 2.0, a prettty dang good grappler that deveoped some rather crap boxing, but enough to pressure most guys in a weak and underdeveloped division. Then he got smashed when the real dogs came.

It's ok to admit. Like Ronda, he's a pioneer and huge part of the sport. But he's not the GOAT.

If that's all the mud you got we can consider this argument over. GSP has only 2 losses on his record. One to an all time great in Matt Hughes and the other to Matt Serra. Both losses were emphatically avenged. Though the lose to Serra may seem egregious because he lost to an undersized "journeyman" Fedor too was floored and stopped cold by perennial MW Dan Henderson.

GSP's fight ledger is also free of any cans, freak shows, and senseless/underserved fights, so we can just hop him over Ali and McGregor when it comes to combat sports greatness too if you want.

LMFAO.

Doesn't have the skill? Has crap boxing? Lol! He is a HW less than 6 feet tall! Do you expect him to be throwing jabs and straights and textbook boxing technique? Lol. He has such short reach he has to work his way inside and throw mostly hooks.

He is not Conor who has a 6 inch reach advantage over all his opponents and stays at a distance throwing nothing but straights. Lol.

Just about everybody Fedor fought was much taller.

Lol at no skill. Fedor was a national judo team member, a World Sambo champ, boxing since childhood, trained with Dutch kickboxers in Holland.

His skills shit on Conor's one dimensional style. You call Fedor a "pioneer" when he has shown a lot more skill versus way better and more dangerous opponents than Conor has the last few years.

Fedor has standing KOs, ground and pound victories, submissions on top, submissions on bottom, decisions from outgrappling, decisions from outstriking.

Lol. You know nothing about MMA

The greatest MMA fighter of our time and, for all logical senses, all of eternity = Fyodr Emelianenko. There won't be another man in any of our lifetimes who will top, let alone match, the accolades, the enigmatic presense, the overall character/personality, and the legacy of The Last Emperor.

Conor would beat Fedor in a boxing match. Fact.

Fedor's boxing is awful. It's not good. Granted that is a trend in MMA, but it's definitely not one Fedor breaks. Fedor has no footwork. Cry all you want, but don't make excuses about size. The dude isn't facing any good boxers either. If he can't get angles for jabs with T-rex arms like Cody can, it's because he isn't good.

Great grappling though. I already admitted that. However, like Ronda Fedor was only well-rounded by the standards of the division. Not the standards of reality.
