I shot against this guy back in the 90s and like most everyone, got trounced!
<Bottle.gif>

He's got a bunch of shit he's been peddling for sometime now including an overpriced rifle, (Oh, it's nice!) as well a scope with a very odd reticle.

Check out the demo below, First link contains instructions.

Thoughts?

I can't say I'm that wild about out. Nor would I pay the price. maybe someone else would dig it?

If you don't know who David Tubb is, look no further than here:

To rub it in even further here's a picture of a 1000yard group by the guy shot prone with a sling:

Very interesting.

Using the demo it is hilariously easy to get hits once you understand it. Using my phone it was somewhat difficult to get the movie targets.

Here's a review of it if you are curious

Thanks for that.

I believe I'm liable to be in the stupid and poor crowd. I would never spend money I could buy another motorcycle for on a scope.

Maybe worse I seem to be retro-grading in my thoughts. I already have this 1947, (Manufacturer Dated) Model 70. I'm almost contemplating un-assing $700 for one of these old scopes for it in a straight 15X

They are - Pros:

1.Sharp and clear glass
2. Adjustments on them track and repeat better than probably anything out there.
3. I really like the crosshair in them.
4. They add character to my Carlos Hamhock rifle.

Cons:

1. They're longer than a fucking Donkey's dick.
3. Three fucking pounds!
4. No new manufacture.
5. Three Fucking Pounds!

Anyway I've a dilemma with this Pre-64 rifle I'm realizing. If I start shooting this thing, (in PRS matches, Whacking Hogs, anything else) and I happen to break the cocking piece on the firing pin, ( When I competed I broke 3 firing pins on a Post-64 Model 70 I used over the course of 6 years shooting and dry firing) I could be fucked!

Besides random old firing pins on Ebay, or the prospect of shucking out like $300 I'm wondering if my rifle is more a thing of antiquity than all-around lead slinger.

Maybe I should buy a rem 700 action and start over. (I don't wanna do that though, damnit. It means another $1500 for the rifle alone, (Action-Barrel-Stock))

I'm digging these Tipped Sierra matchkings though. To me they say: 1 Bullet.

One bullet for match or hunting. That plastic tip is just a cover for a nice big hollowpoint and being a match bullet means thicker jacket, so I can load them nice and hot for extra smack-down.

I'm liking the 168grn 30 cal. or the 155grn 30 cal. Or the 77grn 22 for ARs.

Pondering some this yesterday I also considered a 300 Win Mag. Boy could I scream those 155s in that thing.

1500rnd barrel life just isn't very appetizing though.

Probably I should stop worrying, buy the new Suppressor, put it on the Model 70, shoot the shit outa it and deal with the firing pin if it ever does break. It may not ever break.

If any of this is to be believed this could make a preffty affordable goon gun for shooting most shit out there. Not as much pop as an 06, but wtf, it would still kill hogs, coyotes, and targets. and if it shoots under an inch already.......

I know, you even get to keep a good cheek weld and trigger hand on the gun.

There is always this but I prefer the non reciprocating type posted above.

That ar bolt would be good for ar10s. Unless youre shooting highpower or living in a prohibited area it doesnt seem as useful for regular ARs does it?

I considered the bottom one once, but there's so few threads holding it in. Figured it weould come loose and drill me in the head during a rapid fire string.

That's basically the only reason why I could see the pull bolt upper being sold. Though I don't see the point of it. There are chassis bolt guns that would be better.

I guess the only point of it is that you can have an AR platform that could be converted into a working one if you want, like a shtf type thing. Put a real bcg and hook up the gas.

If things got bad i think id opt for semi auto and a cleaning kit over a manual bolt.

People want to buy alotta crazy shit though, like 3lb unertl scopes!

If I remember correctly, David Tubb placed 3 or 4 in last years King of the 2 Mile. His shooting ability is amazing. I actually ran into him in Texas, got to pick his brain for a minute or two, at a random diner close to another well known long range marksmen, Todd H.. That’s who who we were training with.

He is an innovator with his reticles, I can’t say I truely understood his ‘tear drop’ reticle (forgot the proper name), I felt it to be somewhat limited as in it seemed to act more like a BDC reticle. However, I never got behind the glass, just my take on listening to others and reading about. The thing was also insanely expensive. I have the Horus, and TreMor rets down, and if I’m shooting long range - that’s all I use now.

I’ll have to check this thing out, when my internet isn’t just complete crap.

My most memorable David Tubb (uh memory) was at one of the Texas State Rifle Championship Matches. This particular year (92-94) it was held in a Shit town called Mineral Wells. Place always had the worst weather. Him and his Dad and Son were there. We exchanged pleasantries that morning at the Hotel. Me being the Smart-Ass that I was, (am) thought to myself afterwards, "I don't care you won Nationals like 9 times already I'm hear to whip some ass." Ha.

200 yard Offhand the wind was gusting like crazy, (the only thing that keep the hail from falling) Tubb shot a 192, with a very low X count. I shot a 188. Maybe only 3 or 4 other shooters made above 185s, the rest of the field was in the 170s and 160s and 150s.

200 yard sitting Rapid Tubb shoots a 200- like 10 X. I was maybe a 196, felt I pooched it, none the less still confident I was going to comeback on him.

300 Yard prone rapid, Tubb Shoots 200- 12x I think I was again a 195-197, Ok now I'm slipp'n a bit. Time to pull it together I thought.

600 yard Prone Slowfire, we get on the line, wind finally subsides, the Sun comes out to smile upon us all, flowers are blooming, then out of nowhere a cloud of fucking APHIDS descends upon the line!
lupaphid2ag.jpg
These goddamn things were crawling in one ear and out the other. In everyone's eyes, up their noses, in the sights of the rifles. Literally the most distracting and miserable fucking experience shooting I've ever had. I bummed 3 cigarettes off some old codger next to me (I didn't smoke) and put one on each side of my mouth and the other one sticking outa my ear to ward them off. I almost tossed my rifle like a harpoon out into the field. It was agony, totally unexpected. Never had conditions like that before or since.

To my and everyone's amazement Tubb shoots a 200 clean in those conditions! I think mine was maybe a 180.

I realized the rest of us were just mortals and this guy was fucking Superman!

Back then he was shooting a Mod 70 Winchester either in 7mm-08 or might had just started shooting a 6mm something or another.

Holy hell dude that story made my day!

Thanks for sharing.

He's in the A level athlete category of long range shooting imo. You sound like you kick a fair bit of ass your self. Be great to share a beer one day swap some stories.

That story is awesome and that dudes groups are absurd. Like Hollywood movie absurd.

Let's not get carried away with that assumption. I have my moments and sometimes I'm better than the average idiot. That's about it.

Yeah he is. It's even worse when you think you got something for him!
