What’s preventing UFC/MMA from being the #1 sport in the world?

Its not a sport.

Its a bunch of independent contractors who get together a few times a year and beat the shit out of each other and give 92% of the cash to some dicks in suits. They're basically violent girl scout cookie salesmen.

It won't be a sport as long as the UFC runs things the way they do. Not even if its on ESPN.

People say soccer is the #1 sport in the world because it’s accessible. Whether you’re rich or poor all you need is a ball. You don’t even need a ball in MMA. So shouldn’t MMA be or have the potential to be the #1 sport in the world? Throughout mankind fighting has been in our DNA. So what’s keeping MMA back from being the biggest sport?

Is it because Dana is holding it back?

Is it because the talent is holding it back?

Is it because grassroots MMA is holding it back?

Or is it because millennials do nothing but stare at their phones, don’t engage in sports, are to blame with everything wrong this generation and therefore holding the sport back?
It's because it has a strong element of violence to it, so it's off-putting for a huge % of the population. Only certain people that don't like it at first are willing to look past that and give it a chance.

At times it is just too brutal.

Normal parents will never gather the family around the tv to watch a snuff film like they would a major sport.

Because there are too many pussies out there like you TS...

a lot of ppl just don't like watching fighting for entertainment purposes

Dumb thread. Not as many people want to watch MMA.

Lots of people find combat sports like mma and boxing to be barbaric.

Its only been around for like 20 years.

Its fighting. Combat will never be #1.

All you Euros=Soccer is a retarded low scoring boring game where nobody even hits anyone.

Football is awesome.

Football > any other sport by such a long way that there's no catching it up.
Team sports > individual sports.

FIFA isn't called FISA and football isn't called soccer.
It's not a lift, it's an elevator
It's not a boot, it's a trunk
They're not crisps, they're chips
They're not chips, they're fries
It's not a torch, it's a flashlight
It's not rubbish, it's garbage
They're not trousers, they're pants
It's not a headmaster, it's a principal
It's not a jumper, it's a sweater

I'm gonna go with the fact that about 99% of all the people I know think it's barbaric. Most people hate violence in any form even boxing is still a small sport compared to actual mainstream sports.
Not to mention the really bad organisation, rules and judging make it look like WWE and not like an honest and fair sport.

1) Poor unreliable drug testing

2) Popularity fights over a standard ranking system fans can track and follow there favorite fighters rise to the title shot instead we have waste of time fights..that hurt the divisions more then they help

3) lack open sponsorship...Reebok deal forced alot of companys to not be inolved with the UFC anymore...less consumer input less people are involved ..bringing back sponsor could lead to crossover advertising events and nore chances for companies and their employees\employees families to become fans of the UFC.. Think about the tapout era and how if you saw someone wearing a tapout hoodie or shirt you automatic knew he was a fightfan..
Lol. Their drug testing is among the strongest in sports.

Standard rankings never work.

You can’t believe these 3 things are major barriers to the sport being a lot bigger...

Oh... Kflo..we meet again...

There drug testing is pretty much a joke at this moment..but i wont take your bait into another jon Jones battle with you..not in the mood..

Standard rankings absolutely work...every other major sport follows standard rankings..hockey,football,soccer, basketball... Why because its fair and it allows for you to rally behind a team(fighter) whos earning there way and is playing(fighting) the best..

And if you dont think more advertisers doesnt mean more viewership or exposure you have zero knowledge about business

They don't really treat it like a sport. More of a spectacle.

they don't have rankings. they have a schedule. and a playoffs. and then, magically, they start it all over the next year. if players are hurt and can't play, they just play anyway. certainly you're not suggesting a season schedule with a complete reset the next year?

And if you dont think more advertisers doesnt mean more viewership or exposure you have zero knowledge about business
lol.

you mean more advertisements on fighter shorts? you think that leads to more viewership? you referenced every other major sport above......that doesn't apply here?

It's incredibly violent and most people are horrified by it.

We Sherdoggers are used to it, even revel in it, but the average person doesn't want to see people kick the shit out of each other.

Because it costs a shitload of money to train, and they really don’t make a lot of money.
