Back then there were no FW or BW divisions, and he was still the best in the world at one point despite being very undersized.

Obviously all of the above smash him, but put him down a division or two and its an interesting question.

Today's LW are too big for him. And for a fighter who likes to go head body head body, he''ll also be at a disadvantage when it comes to reach in a division that likes to head hunt. All his weakness could be negated if you bring the 2004 version of Gomi into 2017 and make him train in a good camp outside of Japan. I can see him win against Gaethje since both of them have the same reach even though Gaethje is taller than him, that would be an amazing fight.

Weight cutting is at an alltime high

These bigger LWs these days (Khabib, Tony, Dustin, Lee, Chiesa, Felder, Dober, Hooker etc) would be WWs back in Gomis era and many of them have or will fight at 170. Gomi was aroung 160lbs at most in the cage in his purime. These dudes clear 170 in the cage easily fighting @ LW

a better question is how Gomi would do @ FW

Khabib is a horrible matchup regardless of size/weight tho
