Do you, Francis Ngannou would have kept his contract with the UFC, how many fights would he have needed to make $8 million? He’ll probably get slapped up pretty easily by Tyson fury. But he will make plenty of money in one showing. And that’s a win

big frank sold out to be a sideshow attraction.

not the best look, legacy wise, but if he is happy then i am happy for him.

Until you actually see what Francis is paid all you have is fight promotion hype which is historically unreliable, untrustworthy and purposefully untruthful.

money is what matters. You can’t buy anything with legacy.
Gotta love when some basement dwellers accuses a fighter of selling out. As if given the opportunity they wouldn't pick money and freedom.

Not to mention boxing was Ngannou's dream. So not only is he getting money and freedom, he's pursuing his dream while being one of the only fighters to successfully make it out of the UFC. Which is also part of legacy.

Shortly after announcing his departure from the UFC Ngannou did an interview with Ariel Helwani. In the interview he said the UFC offered a 3 fight contract where he would’ve made “about” $8M in a PPV vs Jones. He didn’t say he would’ve made that with any other fight. I can’t remember if he said one of the remaining 2 fights on the contract could’ve been a Jones rematch.

Maybe one major fight or two, but he wouldn't be guaranteed to make anything after that if he lost per his (projected) contract, so moneywise, he made by far the best choice not to stay in the UFC. There really is no way to frame anyone but Francis as the winner of the negotiation process.

Probably 3 fights if he kept winning. But the boxing route is easier because nobody really expects Francis to win.

What he said was that he would make that 8 million against Jones but if he lost, he would take a major hit and would get lowballed after that. It was a shit contract compared to what he got after he left.

If he's going to make a reported 8 figures for an exhibition boxing match, he made the right decision. He's not getting any younger so the opportunity to cash in while he can is a good call.

The money spends the same and he'll get a lot more of it being a punching bag for Fury.

It's called "prize fighting" for a reason. If the UFC doesn't want it's biggest stars chasing boxing paydays then pay them.
