I went to Whitby vs Morpeth this evening. The attendance was 302, the lowest this season. We were only one place above Morpeth but had them on the back foot from the start. They were deep and letting us push up, then rushed up fast when they got the ball. This see-sawing cost them at 10 minutes when our goalie Shane Bland caught a cross and kicked the ball accurately right up the pitch to our new number 11 from Middlesbrough Max Howells, in space, who went round the keeper and scored. We had most of the possession and put pressure on Morpeth. We held the ball well and the passing was good. It was a dominant first half and we scored again at 30 and 45, as well as having other shots miss or be blocked or saved.
In the second half however Morpeth had made some adjustments and the game was much more balanced. They were putting more pressure on us when we had the ball and their offside trap was working better. In fact they scored at 65 and one of our players got a straight red for a heavy tackle on the edge of the box. There were no more goals though. The second half was pretty weak, but the first half was so great it was a good win for us!
The Seasiders remain in 12th and the Highwaymen remain in 13th. Only two league games left now, Saturday and next Saturday, then the cup final!
