^I think IDRISKCY has that for his desktop background as well. Or is it his screen saver? Can't remember.

Of course you need knowledge--specialized knowledge--but there's a difference between knowledge acquired through formal education, and knowledge acquired through experience.

In many fields, you need a formal education to be socially and professionally accepted enough to make a profit. This holds true despite whatever practical, applied experience or informal education you may have.

The fitness field is not like that, IMO. People will go to whoever they think will get them results, formal education or not. In fact, as I alluded to in the post above, I think formal education ranks rather low on the list of things athletes look at when evaluating different fitness professionals.

Although there are always exceptions, you need some sort of formal education to be an expert. Fitness or human performance is part of science. Understanding biology, chemistry, etc and also understanding statistics, etc, requires formal training. Knowing the relevant literature in an academic field requires formal training. Hobbyists are not experts.

Your knowledge base to be an expert may only require a BS and a NSCA's Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. It may require a bit less, but that will depend on the facts and circumstances. It also requires experience in the relevant fields (working for real atheltes and not posting on the internet). This is the most important aspect for becoming an expert in "human performance," but you need proper knowledge base to able to understand and systematize that experience. But, people who just "black box it" or just read abstracts from pubmed more likely to be bullshitters.

As I said, for every expert that has very little formal training and is that is very good and well respected, there are far more frauds and "internet experts."

Wait, at the cost of not defending yourself being Richard Simmons, you instead suggested I have your picture as my screen saver? Nice.

I see what you're saying, and agree for the most part.

To clarify what I meant by my previous posts, given a large sampling of "fitness professionals," I don't think you could divide them into groups based on education level and find a strong correlation between education and commercial success (with consideration to the performance/athletic community). Even the "no formal education" or "very little formal education" groups, while they may indeed be frauds, may also be quite commercially successful (as we have ample evidence of online :( )

So the real question is, does zero want to be a fraud or not?

I've taken several nutrition classes as well as read a lot of stuff online and I feel that I have quite a bit of knowledge regarding nutrition and athletic performance. Like my sig says, if someone has a question, feel free to PM me. I can also give general advice regarding nutrition/training plans and will assist via email and phone.

Nutrition per 12 weeks is $100 and training is $50.

I thought that was a shot at KK.

Hey Zerocrew, have you looked into Dietetics and Nutrition practice laws in Arizona? I don't know about Arizona but in Florida writing out plans or making any nutrition recommendations without RD credentials or a physician referral can results in a 1,000 dollar fine and time in prison for each count. Just something to think about. Don't want you getting in trouble bro.

fsufight fan, thanks for the heads up. I'm not aware of an az law regarding that. I'll edit my post. Thanks again.

Wait a sec, are you actively trying to gain insight into what might be on the other side of a college diploma or is this an elaborate swipe at Sinister?
