Ginger's log

That's why I hate pulls. I'd rather just snatch more, or do something snatchier than just a pull.

Haven't updated in a while, this week has been a bit hectic to say the least.

1/21/13

Push Press
40x5
50x3
60x3
70x1
81x1 (PR)
- put on a belt here
85x1 (PR)
90x0x2

- haven't done push press in a while and was happy to hit a few pr's.

Power Snatch
40x3x2
50x3x2
60x3x2
70x3x2
72x3

- last rep at 72 was a full snatch so stopped here

Snatch Pull
80x5x2
90x5x2

Front Squat
85x8x4

1/22/13

Pullups

- didn't keep track of sets but did 50 reps in total within 20 minutes

Did some tricep stuff and then a lot of ab work after

1/23/13

AM: did shuttle run/beep test and then a bunch of circuit crap after for our fitness class

PM:

2 Power Cleans and 2 Power Jerks
50x2x2
60x2x2
70x2x2
80x2x2
90x2x2
95x1x2

Clean Pull
100x5x2
110x5x2
120x5x2

BTN Jerk
50x3x2
70x3x2
80x3x2
90x3x2
100x3
100x0
100x3

- jerks felt very heavy today

Front Squat

up to 80x8 - felt really tired so didn't push it too much, hoping to do well on friday.

Also very quick write up of the Canadian Jr Nationals:

First time we've held a competition of this caliber at UTM apparently so I was happy everything seemed to go well. Ran into some trouble in the beginning since we didn't have competition size 5kg plates as there were some attempts at 25 and 30kg. We finally had someone drive out to get them and only ended up using them for one attempt after.

I was mostly in charge of loading that day and I have to say it's much easier being a loader at weightlifting comps than powerlifting. The bar only ever goes up in weight which make the changes relatively easy, whereas in powerlifting there were times where we went from nearly 200kg all the way back down to 65kg for someone's 2nd attempt. That being said it was exhausting but got to see some good lifts. One female in particular managed to break the Canadian junior snatch record, total record and attempted to break the clean and jerk record (which she already owns) with 129kg in the 75kg class but missed the clean. There were several provincial junior records that were broken as well but I don't remember exactly which ones. Also got to see a 167kg clean and jerk attempt at the junior 94kg class which was very close.

Overall it was a very long day but I love being at these competitions, gets me excited for my next ones as well.

1/25/13

Wasn't expecting much today after how I felt this week but turned out great.

Snatch

- started with my romaleos. Comp is coming up so coach wanted to see how I lifted in them again and if it was any different than before

40x3x2
50x3x2
60x3x2
70x0,1,0
65x0,0,1
65x0,0

- switched back to chucks after this. Starting position was really off with the nikes and i kept going onto my toes whenever I would catch it

60x3
65x3x2
70x3x2
75x3x2
80x0,1,0
80x1,0,0
85x1
88x1 (PR!!)

- extremely happy about this, only a 1kg pr but I'm not complaining. Haven't even matched my old snatch pr let alone break it in what feels like the longest time and it only took me around 2 hours to do so

(strap stuck to my left hand after I tried to slam it so almost smoked myself here)

Clean and Jerk
50x2x2
60x2x2
70x2x2
80x2x2
90x2x2
100x1
105x1

- caught 105 shitty cause I cut the pull short but still stood up no problem and the jerk was a joke. Unfortunately coach wouldn't let me try for a pr so I decided to make up for it in squats

Front Squat
50x3x2
70x3
90x3
100x1
110x1
122x1 (+2kg PR)

- probably could have squeezed out a bit more but decided against it. Hard to be disappointed with today anyway.

1/27/13

Goal for today was just to get some quality doubles in at around 80-85%

Snatch

40x2x2
50x2x2
60x2x2
65x2
70x2x3
72x2x3
75x0

- all my snatches felt great today. Missed 75 after a 10+ minute break after the last set at 72 (got caught up talking to someone I haven't seen in a little while) Decided to move on after

Clean and Jerk

50x2x2
70x2x2
75x2
85x2x4
90x2

- forgot my belt so cleans were harder than usual but manageable nonetheless

Sounds like a pretty solid day. UTM = University of Toronto @Mississauga?

Monday

Snatch pull - up to 90x5x3

Clean pull - up to 120x5x2

Jerk - up to 80x3x2, pulled something in my rib somehow and made it painful at lockout, moved onto squats

Front squats
90x5x2 - done beltless since I seem to have lost mine. Weight wasn't too difficult considering it's beltless but regardless didn't push it too much today

I keep neglecting to update this thing ffs

Quick updates: been sick as hell since last thursday and absolutely slammed with assignments for school so I've been really busy. Also somehow I managed to mess up my elbow over the weekend so I'm slowly working back into using it (snatched up to 60 yesterday before I started feeling it so it's getting better)

On another note one of the guys on the UTM team told me I apparently wasn't on the starting list for the comp this saturday so I called up the director, told me they never got my forms apparently and they said they're all full so can't put me in. Basically I can't compete at all this saturday which I'm pissed about because these past few weeks (before getting sick and injured) were all going so well and I wanted to do well at this comp. Gonna have to suck it up I guess and train twice as hard for the next comp

2/11/13

2 Power Snatch, 1 full - from blocks
40x3x2
50x3x2
60x3x2
70x3x2
75x0,0
75x3

- everything felt fine up until 75, felt a little strain on my elbows and wrists that basically made my psyche myself out for fear of injury. Got it on the second try though, pretty sure it's a pr from the blocks but I can't be sure

Clean from blocks

50x3x2
70x3x2
80x3x2
90x3

- all done beltless (still have to buy a new one) so wasn't too bad all things considered. Nice to not have to rely on the belt

Jerk from blocks
50x3x2
60x3x2
70x3x2
80x3x2
90x3

- jerks aggravated my elbows/wrists, stopped at 90

Front Squat
50x5
72x5
82x5
94x10 (5+) PR

- starting up 531 for squats again. Borrowed my friend's belt for the last set and although it felt more like cardio than lifting I was happy with how I did.

2/12/13

(in lbs)

Bench
bar
95x5
135x5
145x5
160x9 (5+)
185x0
175x1
185x1
185x1

- starting benching again since I'm not prepping for a comp, felt rusty as hell. Didn't have a calculator so I guesstimated the weights for today and they were pretty close so meh. Failed first single cause of messing up the technique but afterwards the 175 and 185 singles went up easily. Elbows felt fine too which was reassuring

Floor Press
135x5x3

- assistance work: db incline, tate press, lat pulldowns, curls for the girls

Pretty sure Jake struggled with the Romaleos at first too. Train in them regularly if you can.

Ideally I could but my coach won't even let me wear them in practice anymore. Might just use them on my days off until I get used to them. For some reason I seem to have better positioning in chuck's which is odd

Buy some cheap pendlays. The heel isn't as aggressive. Wearing flat shoes is something I'd prefer to avoid.

Pendlays you say? Hadn't thought of those, gonna look into them. Do they fit wide feet well? That's my biggest issue with the adidas ones, they're narrow as hell.

They gave me enough room. I doubt your feet are wider than mine.

2/13/13

Had to run some RCMP physical testing (PARE) through a dry run as part our class this morning. Wasn't too bad considering I never do any cardio but really messed with me on cleans since I had to lift right after

(lbs)

Clean
95x3x2
135x2x2
155x2x2
175x2x2
185x2x2

HBBS
bar
95x5
135x5
185x5
215x5
265x6 (5+) rep PR
285x1
300x1 PR
300x1

- haven't done high bar in a while so estimated my max and used 90% of that.

I was supposed to do 245 for 5+ today, after my set I racked it and started worrying about why it felt so damn heavy. Then I looked and realized that like a dumbass I loaded 265 instead  Wasn't sure whether to be upset or happy so I just did a bunch of singles to make up for it. On the bright side hit 2 pr's today, hammering my front squat seems to have helped a lot. Singles at 300 went well too, have plenty in the tank.

Ghetto GHR
BWx10x5

Ran out of time so just stopped there.

2/15/13

Snatch
40x3x2
50x3x2
60x3x2
70x3
70x2,0
75x2
75x1
80x1x2
85x1
90x0x2
90x1 (+2kg PR)

- started off feeling awful, was catching everything forward and even 70 felt heavy. Starting at 80 though everything started clicking and after I smoked 85 ended up going for a pr, got it on my 3rd attempt. Pull was slow as hell but got under it ok

Lift starts about a minute in, I really have to start cutting down on my setup

100 is coming soon enough

Clean and Jerk
50x2x2
70x2x2
80x2x2
90x2x2
100x0
100x1x2
106x0x2
100x1

- all done beltless (have to buy a new one still) cleans were incredibly hard without it. Tried for a pr twice but it just wasn't there today

Lbbs
50x5
70x5
90x5
105x5
118x5

- quick set of 5, felt light.

Great work in here Ginger, congrats on the PRs!

OHP
45x5
53x5
60x6 (5+)
65x1
68x1
70x1

- reps at 60 felt heavy today but the singles were fine. Pressed too far out at 70 and hit a bad sticking point but grinded through it. Gotta work on pressing it in a straight line when it gets heavy

Did close grip bench, rows and other assistance after

2/17/13

- used one of the random belts lying around the gym today (don't belong to anyone)

Deficit DL (1.5")
50x3x2
70x3
100x3
120x3
140x1
150x1
160x1

- 160 was an absolute max, this little of a deficit made a huge impact since my weakness is off the floor.

Front Squat
50x5
70x3
78x3
88x3
100x8 (3+) (PR)

- was aiming for 5 but went so easy ended up doing 8. Probably could have grinded out another rep or maybe even 2. Front squat has been feeling really strong lately, cleans still feel like shit though :(

2/19/13

Bench
60x3
68x3
75x6 (3+)
80x1
85x1x2

Did floor press, db incline, rows, etc after

2/20/13

2 Power Snatches, 1 Full Snatch
40x3x2
50x3x2
60x3x2
70x0x3
60x3
65x3
70x0,0
70x2,0
70x3
75x3x2
[switched to doubles]
80x0,1
80x2

- snatches felt good after I moved up to 75 but struggled like hell at 70 for some reason.

1 Power Clean, 2 Hang Power Cleans
50x3x2
70x3x2
80x3x2
90x3x2

Jerk
50x3x2
60x3x2
70x3x2
80x3x2
90x3
100x1x2

- jerks seem to aggravate my elbows the most, I'm always timid during these and all of the 90's were pressed out. Went to 100 to get a few good singles in at a heavy-ish weight to get the feel for it again. Wasn't feeling too good about this session but the squats more than made up for it

HBBS
40x5
60x5
80x5
92x3
105x3
118x10 (3+) PR
130x1
140x1 PR
145x1 PR

- wasn't planning on going too heavy today, especially after the rep pr but 130 went up ridiculously easy. Hit a sticking point halfway up on the 145 but grinded through it, could have maybe gone another 2-3 kilos but didn't see the point after 3 pr's already. My high bar feels stronger than ever and isn't aggravating my knees so this was just a win on all accounts.

2/21/13

Went to physio today and basically my patella isn't tracking correctly and my si joint is messed so they worked on that. Feel a lot better now and going for a follow up on wednesday
