Obama can no longer be considered left of center. He is a right wing puppet.

Info I've collected on the TPP from the internet for debate:

So, after NAFTA, thousands of U.S. manufacturing firms closed their doors, fired hundreds of thousands of U.S. workers, and relocated just across the Mexican border so as to take advantage of the low wages in Mexico's maquiladora zone.

Vietnam, one the TPP negotiating countries, is considered the low-cost labor alternative to even China. Independent labor unions are illegal in Vietnam and workers are paid about one-third to one-half of what Chinese workers are paid. The TPP would pit U.S. workers against Vietnam's underpaid and repressed workforce, perpetuating the race to the bottom.

The people that are in favor of this are the people who caused the recession, bankers and corporate CEO's, Wall Street's goons.

It is not a free trade agreement. It has nothing to do with "free trade." Virtually nothing.
Tariffs are already very low, and changing the tariff agreements means essentially nothing. It is anti-free trade.

First off all, it is in secret. Remember it is virtually in secret, the population is not supposed to know about it. It is not totally in secret, the corporate lawyers and lobbyists who are writing it; it is not a secret to them.
So it is not a secret to the corporate world, it is not a secret to the state authority. It is just a secret to the population.

Pieces have been leaked through Wikileaks.

One piece leaked was the "Intellectual Property Rights" section, which is one of the core elements of the agreement. Now what are intellectual property rights? It is a complicated word that means highly protectionist measures to ensure profits of American and international pharmaceutical and media corporations. That is anti-free trade. It is extreme protectionism in the interests of very wealthy and powerful parts of the corporate system.
But other parts are --we don't have the details remember because it is secret-- a variety of "investor rights" provisions, to ensure the rights of investors against the population.

Take NAFTA, which we do know because it is there we can see, was also negotiated in secret but now it is public.
A large part of it is guarantees of the rights of U.S. investors to what is called "national treatment" in Mexico, so if General Motors does business in Mexico, it has to be treated like a Mexican business. If a Mexican human being comes to the New York, he doesn't have the rights of an American citizen, quite the contrary can end up in prison for the rest of his life, but American businesses have to have the rights of Mexicans.

U.S. agro-business, highly subsidized agro-business, totally against free trade. Has to have the right to flood the Mexican market with produce that the Mexicans can't compete with of course. Which sets up the immigration crisis.

That is NAFTA, but one of the TPP provisions allows a corporation --not you or me-- to sue a state if the state is taking measures which might potentially interfere with profits.

So if Mexico decides to set up an environmentally protected region where some American corporation wants to invest, they can sue Mexico for taking their "future profits" on the area Mexico is trying to protect.

These are the kinds of provisions that you see in the trade agreements.
They're not free trade agreements, they're not about free trade. In fact, to a large extent they are not about trade at all, and they certainly are not agreements, people are mostly opposed to them, that's why they are in secret, so every word in "free trade agreement" is just false.

Obama can no longer be considered left of center. He is a right wing puppet.

It's been many years since anyone could make a rational argument for Obama being left of center.
The Right just went with "he's a communist" and "too extreme for America" because they use it every election and their dimwitted base always gobbles it up, so why fix it if it still works.

But, to the main point - yes, he's a corporatist and yes, the more you hear about TPP, the worse it sounds.

Well, what can we do about it?

sad thing is, it doesn't even matter who u vote for.

Obama can no longer be considered left of center. He is a right wing puppet.

he never was. it was all a lie from the beginning.

the democrat party(as well as most "left wing" parties in western 2 party systems) are the same corporate ass kissing puppets as their more right wing counterpart. their progressive stance in social issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc is just a smokescreen to make them look different from the other big party in the system. both parties are puppets of the same master, slightly different to make the masses believe their opinion counts.

thanks mostly to the disastrous administration by both big parties, the 2 party system seems to be declining over here:

hopefully the trend continues. more options means less bullshit is tolerated from parties.

It actually matters very much who you vote for. The ACA is his signature piece of legislation, which is a massive deficit reducer and got millions of uninsured people coverage. Of course, every right winger wants to repeal the law. Obama and Rs have very different views on the environment, taxes, income inequality, social issues, etc..

In fact, if you want more proof, just look at the actions of Congress. If Obama said the sky was blue they would call him a lying Muslim socialist and say the sky is green. The TPP is one of the very, very few things Congress has agreed with Obama on.

context for TTP? none? gtfo then.

At first glance it seems like Obama and Republicans disagree on issues that benefit the people, but are in lockstep on issues that benefit the corporate sector.

You made two horrible errors in what you said.

This falls under what you said, but I think it deserves highlighting: the Ryan budget could really happen if a Republican wins in 2016 (and could have already happened if a Republican had won in 2012). To use a phrase the right-wing media loves to repeat, that's something that could fundamentally change America. And SCOTUS appointments are also huge, especially given how politicized the court has become.

context for TTP? none? gtfo then.

He was commenting on something someone else said. In terms of foreign policy (including international agreements), for better or usually worse, there isn't that much of a difference between the parties, though I'd still say that the differences there are are pretty significant. Even with regard to the TPP, the GOP is on board with it, but it's a softer exercise of power (using influence rather than force) than a Republican president would prefer.

u think we deserve a Muslim as POTUS?

He's probably not a Muslim. But he loves Islam more than Christianity.

He probably worships a Hindu god called "Hanuman". He carries an idol of Hanuman in his pocket at all times. Christians or Muslims do not carry other idols of worship in their pockets. So that's why I don't think he is a Christian or a Muslim.

LOL. The DEM president pushes a POS legislation and is mostly supported by both parties, and it is a "conservative" issue.

I wonder if you people even listen to yourselves when sticking with the unshakable "my side has to be right so that i can validate the political beliefs i hold" tenet...

Whoa, if true.

This is also interesting.

In the 3rd chapter of Kishkindha Kaanda of Valmiki Ramayana,[5] Rama describes many attributes of Hanuman's personality. Summarized as follows:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanuman

Ablest sentence maker.
Know-er of all Vedas and Scriptures.
Scholar in nine schools of grammars.
Possessing faultless speech and facial features

I think he believes carrying that Hindu god will help him the power to make good speeches. Just a theory though.

it get's labeled as "conservative" issue, when in fact it's another 0,1% Agenda.
but as long as we have the Kardashians to entertain the masses, everything is fine.
Lobbyism is the cancer of this Country.
