Depending on the movie. He says "I'm 76 years old" in 1975 in Rocky 1.

And then his grave marker says 1905 in Rocky 3...

Pope Benedict XVI just straight up retires, the first time a pope simply quit in 600 years!

Did he really quit cause he was old and tired or was there scandal a foot?

This has everything to do with the pragmatic approach of the Vatican stemming the losses of its market share and memberships. Atheism as a movement was peaking and the Vatican had to take drastic measures to improve its image.

Exit Pope Ratzinger

1905

The year Tsar Nicholas begins to fuck it all up.

  • January 9: Bloody Sunday. 150,000 striking workers and their families march through St. Petersburg to deliver a protest to the Tsar, but are shot and ridden down on multiple occasions by the army.
  • February: The strike movement spreads down to the Caucasus. • February 4: Grand-Duke Sergei Alexandrovich is killed by an SR assassin as protests grow.
  • March: The strike movement and unrest reaches Siberia and the Urals.
  • May: Embarrassment for the government as the Baltic Fleet is easily sunk, having spent 7 months sailing round to Japan.
  • June 14-24: Sailors mutiny on the Battleship Potemkin.
  • August 23: Treaty of Portsmouth ends the Russo-Japanese war; Russia has been beaten by an opponent they were expected to easily defeat.
  • October 12: Strike action has developed into a General Strike.
  • November 14: The Moscow branch of the Peasants Union is arrested by the government.
Of course he still somehow manages to hold onto power for another 12 years. This was not his finest year though.........

Wright Brothers First Flight

On December 17, 1903, two brothers from Dayton, Ohio, named Wilbur and Orville Wright, were successful in flying an airplane they built.

Their powered aircraft flew for 12 seconds above the sand dunes of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, making them the first men to pilot a heavier-than-air machine that took off on its own power, remained under control, and sustained flight.

Electric Theatre, the first movie theater in the United States, opens in Los Angeles.

large.jpg

Tally’s Electric Theatre is listed as the first permanent movie theater designed specifically for the exhibition of films. It was opened in the spring of 1902 by Thomas L. Tally in Los Angeles.

In later years, Tally had the idea to create an organization of exhibitors, one from each major city, which would buy, or make, and distribute their own films. He presented his idea to another exhibitor, John D. Williams of West Virginia, who liked the idea and combined forces with Tally. They named their new company First National Exhibitors Circuit.

The organization’s first office was two small rooms at 18 East 41st Street, and their motto proclaimed, “The Good Guys Get, By Getting Together”.

Ok ... it wasn't covered until 1922. But still!

The town actually rallied against having it covered cause they thought people would do bad deeds in there, but it was covered anyway as covered bridges last longer where the inner workings are protected from the elements.

And is STILL the longest covered bridge in the world !!
