So, I'm looking through my game catalog, and it seems that the last 3-4 years I've been playing indie games, and enjoying them more on average than the big AAA games.
Here are some I am currently playing, or ones down the road I think look awesome.
Dead Cells
Awesome game, a mix between Rogue Like games (I still dont know what Rogue like or Rogue Lit even means) and old school Castlevania games. Still in Early Access, only 2 bosses, but so far I've played it probably 20 hours.
Streets of Rogue
Weird little game, made by one guy. The game gives you objectives, and you figure out how you want to proceed in fulfilling them. Good game to play for 30 mins at a time. Fun to experiment with different characters and strategies
Dungeon of The Endless
Rogue Elements, RPG elements, tower defense game. Very deep and addictive game. Your ship crashed, and you have to take the crystal from the exit of the stage to the end, with enemies randomly popping in, going from room to room. Take your crystal out of the beginning of the stage, the guy who carries it goes slow, and enemies swarm. Very tense, and very fun.
Hyper Light Drifter
Ultra hard, twitch reflex rpgish, old school Zeldaish game? All I know is that it feels like the old badass snes games I played as a kid, ramped up to 11
Starbound
Basically No Man's Sky in 2d, if No Man's Sky wasn't shit, and delivered on it's promises. Harvest food and resources, create colonies, upgrade your ship and tech, go to whatever planets you want.
Pyre
Just came out a couple of days ago. Made by the team who made Transistor and Bastion, two awesome indie games of the last decade. Cool narrative so far. Gameplay is almost like a sport. Like a grid based rpg, but with an orb that you must get to the other side of the map. Hard to describe, but real fun.
Some upcoming games that look cool
