So, I'm looking through my game catalog, and it seems that the last 3-4 years I've been playing indie games, and enjoying them more on average than the big AAA games.

Here are some I am currently playing, or ones down the road I think look awesome.

Dead Cells

Awesome game, a mix between Rogue Like games (I still dont know what Rogue like or Rogue Lit even means) and old school Castlevania games. Still in Early Access, only 2 bosses, but so far I've played it probably 20 hours.

Weird little game, made by one guy. The game gives you objectives, and you figure out how you want to proceed in fulfilling them. Good game to play for 30 mins at a time. Fun to experiment with different characters and strategies

Dungeon of The Endless
Rogue Elements, RPG elements, tower defense game. Very deep and addictive game. Your ship crashed, and you have to take the crystal from the exit of the stage to the end, with enemies randomly popping in, going from room to room. Take your crystal out of the beginning of the stage, the guy who carries it goes slow, and enemies swarm. Very tense, and very fun.

Hyper Light Drifter
Ultra hard, twitch reflex rpgish, old school Zeldaish game? All I know is that it feels like the old badass snes games I played as a kid, ramped up to 11

Starbound
Basically No Man's Sky in 2d, if No Man's Sky wasn't shit, and delivered on it's promises. Harvest food and resources, create colonies, upgrade your ship and tech, go to whatever planets you want.

Pyre
Just came out a couple of days ago. Made by the team who made Transistor and Bastion, two awesome indie games of the last decade. Cool narrative so far. Gameplay is almost like a sport. Like a grid based rpg, but with an orb that you must get to the other side of the map. Hard to describe, but real fun.

So, what indie games are you guys liking, and what ones in the future look promising to you?

Dead Cells, looks interesting will def follow its progress.

Guess you could call it Indie (I think)

Darkest Dungeon: http://www.darkestdungeon.com/

Currently smashing my head against the wall with this one. Good game.

Did you just post cartoon porn for Starbound??? Maybe change that.

Indie games are the best, it's where innovation in the industry starts, where people take chances on arbitrary ideas. Lots of awesome games in there that you will never hear of unless you look for them.

Hellblade and Absolver are both "indie". Seems odd people refer to "indie" as if it's a genre. It's just studios publishing their own games instead of having to find a bigger publisher to put their games out.

Absolver:

Hellblade:

Yonder looks cool as well for a relaxing play.

I also think now that "indies" have become so popular, that publishers are looking to snatch up what they can, even if it's just smaller publishers. I honestly don't know what's independently published any more and have to check Steam store pages.

furiously downloads Starbound

How can you have an indie thread without mentioning Ori?

Does Starbound count as indie now that Chucklefish is a publisher?

Is that guy raping a penguin? Where can I download?

The Swapper. A cool sci fi puzzle game with excellent graphics.

Darkest Dungeon. A turn based rpg. It's pretty hard.

Rogue Legacy. Probably one of the best metroidvania, rogue like games

I can't really get into indie games besides the high end ones like Telltale.

Terraria has ruined all other Indie games for me.

Super Time Force Ultra and Broforce were my 2 favorite games this generation. Any suggestions for similar games?

I also enjoyed Rogue Legacy and some Metroidvania clone name escapes me it was free on PSN

Got a lot of playtime out of...

One Finger Death Punch
Super Meat Boy
Braid
Super Amazing Wagon Adventure
The Impossible Game
Minecraft
Bastion
