John Lasseter's Pattern of Alleged Misconduct Detailed by Disney/Pixar Insiders

Rashida Jones is still credited as a writer on Toy Story 4, the next installment in the beloved franchise. But, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter, the actress and her writing partner at the time, Will McCormack, left the project early on after John Lasseter, the acclaimed head of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation, made an unwanted advance.

Jones and McCormack did not respond to repeated requests for comment. Disney declined to comment on the alleged incident though a studio source said the departure was over "creative differences." Multiple sources spoke with THR but asked not to be named out of fear that their careers in the tight-knit animation community would be damaged.

Based on the accounts of former Pixar insiders as well as sources in the animation community, the alleged incident was not an isolated occurrence. One longtime Pixar employee says Lasseter, who is well-known for hugging employees and others in the entertainment community, was also known by insiders for "grabbing, kissing, making comments about physical attributes." Multiple sources say Lasseter is known to drink heavily at company social events such as premiere parties, but this source says the behavior was not always confined to such settings.

Now Lasseter is taking a leave of absence from Pixar after acknowledging "painful" conversations and unspecified "missteps," he wrote in a memo to staff on Tuesday. The leave is said to be for six months, a source tells THR.

It is hard to overstate Lasseter's value to Disney. He is known as the genius behind Pixar films from Toy Story to Inside Out to Coco, opening Nov. 22. He took charge of Walt Disney Animation in 2006 and led a revival that included such gigantic hits as Frozen.

Sources say some women at Pixar knew to turn their heads quickly when encountering him to avoid his kisses. Some used a move they called "the Lasseter" to prevent their boss from putting his hands on their legs.

A longtime insider says he saw a woman seated next to Lasseter in a meeting that occurred more than 15 years ago. "She was bent over and [had her arm] across her thigh," he says. "The best I can describe it is as a defensive posture ... John had his hand on her knee, though, moving around." After that encounter, this person asked the woman about what he had seen. "She said it was unfortunate for her to wear a skirt that day and if she didn't have her hand on her own right leg, his hand would have traveled."

Another former insider remembers awkward encounters with Lasseter, who liked — as many in the industry do — to hug in meetings. "You'd hug him and he'd whisper in your ear, a long time," this person says. "He hugged and hugged and everyone's looking at you. Just invading the space."

Lasseter is best known as one of the founders of Pixar, which began as a part of the graphics group at Lucasfilm. Along with Ed Catmull, he popularized CGI in animation with early films like Monsters Inc. In 2006, after Disney purchased Pixar, Lasseter was named the chief creative officer of both Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. He has since become the face of all Disney animation, overseeing the recent resurgence of the studio's namesake brand with properties like Frozen and Moana.

While Lasseter has won two Oscars (one is a specialty Oscar for his work on Toy Story), Pixar has racked up eight best animated feature wins. Under Lasseter's purview, WDA has picked up three wins, most recently with 2016's Zootopia.

[Update:] Variety reports that Rashida Jones has denied the Hollywood Reporter article that claimed she left Toy Story 4 as a writer, along with writing partner Will McCormack, over an unwanted advance from Pixar and Disney animation chief John Lasseter.Jones instead said they left over “philosophical differences,” and asserted that their exit was over the fact that they believed women and people of color did not have “an equal creative voice” at Pixar. Lasseter was originally the co-director of Toy Story 4, but stepped down in July, with Josh Cooley taking over as the sole director.

Jude Law, Reportedly to Play Mar-Vell, Joins Brie Lawson in CAPTAIN MARVEL

Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in Marvel’s Captain Marvel, sources tell Variety.

Ben Mendelsohn is on board to play the villain with Half Nelson helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directing. Kevin Feige is producing.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the most recent script with Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman penning previous drafts, which follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight.

Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Feige announced that the superhero film will be set in the ’90s, before the Avengers ever thought of assembling, and Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury.

Law is set to star as Albus Dumbledore in Warner Bros.' Fantastic Beasts sequel and will join Blake Lively in Paramount's spy thriller The Rhythm Section.

To be more specific, it's an ongoing situation with Thanos interrogating the Collector on the whereabouts of the Aether/Reality Stone (as seen in the clip above your post).

The Steven Spielberg-directed film about the Pentagon Papers saga also scored best actor and actress prizes from the group for its lead performances by Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.

The accolades are the first major awards for the Fox and DreamWorks film, which is set to be released Dec. 22 in select theaters.

The NBR also bestowed the first major awards on Paul Thomas Anderson's Christmas release, Phantom Thread. The film, which marks Daniel Day-Lewis' final acting role, was honored with the best original screenplay prize and was named one of NBR's top films.

Greta Gerwig earned best director honors for her acclaimed feature-helming debut Lady Bird (also named one of NBR's top 10 films), with the dramedy's Laurie Metcalf also nabbing a supporting actress award. The honor comes less than 24 hours after Lady Bird star Saoirse Ronan won the Gotham Award for best actress.

The Florida Project's Willem Dafoe was named best supporting actor.

The best adapted screenplay prize went to The Disaster Artist's Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, with the movie also being named one of NBR's top 10 films. The honors came the day after star James Franco was named best actor at the Gotham Awards.

Less than 24 hours after Get Out won three Gotham Awards, the Jordan Peele-helmed racially themed horror film won best directorial debut for Peele and best ensemble honors. And following Call Me by Your Name's best feature Gotham Award, star Timothee Chalamet won the NBR's breakthrough performance prize for his role in the Luca Guadagnino-directed coming-of-age romance. Both films were also named to NBR's list of top films.

Other notable NBR winners include Coco (best animated feature), Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins (Spotlight Award) and Angelina Jolie's First They Killed My Father (one of two Freedom of Expression Awards).

Can't lie - IW looks cool, and I'm not an Avengers fan.

THIS is what happens when you take the TIME to build your characters in their own movies, not just blow your load and just toss everyone on screen like DC

Chinese Actress Liu Yifei Cast as the Lead in Disney's Live-Action MULAN

0aCW2BV.jpg

After a yearlong worldwide search, Mulan has been found. Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, is set to star as the title woman warrior in Disney's live-action adaptation of the classic Chinese tale.

A team of casting directors visited five continents and saw nearly 1,000 candidates for the role, which requires credible martial arts skills, the ability to speak English and the most ineffable requirement of all: star quality. In deference to cultural accuracy, the studio focused on locating an ethnically Chinese young woman to play Hua Mulan, who disguised herself as a man to take her father's army conscription in fifth-century China.

In Liu, Disney found the complete package. Nicknamed "Fairy Sister" by the Chinese public for her pure and innocent looks and image, she has been one of the country's most popular actresses of the current generation since breaking out with a series of hit television dramas in the mid-2000s, while she was still a teenager enrolled in the Beijing Film Academy. She is fluent in English, having lived in Queens, N.Y., for part of her childhood, and acted in English in both 2008's The Forbidden Kingdom, alongside Jackie Chan and Jet Li, and 2014's Outcast, opposite Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen. She also starred opposite Emile Hirsch in Danish auteur Bille August's period romance The Chinese Widow, which opened the Shanghai International Film Festival in June.

Liu, who has served as a brand ambassador for Dior, Tissot, Garnier and Pantene, most recently starred in the fantasy romance Once Upon a Time, which earned $82.3 million in China this summer. Her other credits include 2012's The Assassins, which earned Liu her first major acting award (at the Macau International Movie Festival), Never Gone and The Four trilogy.

Niki Caro, who most recently helmed The Zookeeper’s Wife, is directing Disney's live-action Mulan, which is produced by Chris Bender, Jason Reed and Jake Weiner and eyeing a 2019 release. The 1998 animated version, voice-starring Agents of SHIELD's Ming-Na Wen alongside Eddie Murphy and B.D. Wong, earned $304.3 million worldwide as well as Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.

New Trailer for ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD with Christopher Plummer

Paul Getty's refusal to cooperate with the extortion demands of a group of kidnappers, from the organized crime group 'Ndrangheta, who abducted and subsequently mutilated his grandson John Paul Getty III in the 1970s. Kevin Spacey originally portrayed Getty Sr. However, after multiple sexual assault allegations were leveled against Spacey, his scenes were cut and re-shot with Christopher Plummer. The film opens December 22, 2017.

I like seeing Marky Mark in these kinds of films. Glad he's not stuck in the transformers universe. yikes

If you had to guess, what would you think was the most buzz-worthy moment from the Avengers: Infinity War trailer? Spider-Man's slick new costume? Thor meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy? Thanos' menacing speech?

It turns out it was Steve Rogers forgetting to bring his razor when he went into hiding after the events of 2016's Captain America: Civil War.

Captain America's beard generated more than 20,000 mentions on Twitter in the first seven hours of the trailer's release, according to social media research firm Fizziology. To put that number in perspective, that's more than many trailers generate as a whole during the same period (72 percent of trailers get fewer than 20,000 mentions during their first seven hours of life).

The trailer dethroned It (197 million views) as the most viewed-trailer in 24 hours with 230 million views (according to Marvel). Infinity War is also the most talked-about initial trailer during the first seven hours that Fizziology has studied, topping Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Here's the breakdown of the top five talked-about moments from the Infinity War trailer:

Captain America's Beard (20,474 mentions)
Spidey sense (6,100 mentions)
Guardians at the end of the trailer (5,497 mentions)
Get this man a shield (2,180 mentions)
Group together running at end (2,108 mentions)

And the first trailers for a movie with the most mentions within the first seven hours:

Avengers: Infinity War (1,147,438)
Star Wars: The Last Jedi (784,360)
Fifty Shades of Grey (503,392)
Captain America: Civil War (426,015)

He-Man has a new master. David S. Goyer is in talks to direct Sony's Masters of the Universe, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The film will be based on the beloved Mattel toyline, which spawned a successful animated series (1983-85) as well as a 1987 film. The property centers on the warrior hero He-Man, the last hope of a magical land call Eternia. Dolph Lundgren starred in the original film, which was directed by Gary Goddard and also featured Frank Langella as the villainous Skelator.

Goyer is known for his screenwriting work on Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, as well as Man of Steel. His previous directing credits include 2004's Blade: Trinity, the 2009 horror film The Unborn and episodes of Starz's Da Vinci's Demons, which he created.

The reboot has long been in development, with a number of filmmakers previously attached, including G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu and McG. Goyer has written the most recent draft of the script.

Mattell is a partner in the movie, and Sony's Matthew Milam will oversee for the studio. Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing Masters of the Universe, which is set for a Dec. 18, 2019 release date.

If they reboot Masters of the Universe, they have to CGI He-Man.

Adam and He-Man look exactly the same in the cartoon. At least Clark Kent wore glasses
