How did Aldo become a small FW?

Lol at people saying USADA.

USADA made his opponents bigger. That's some great logic.
No it made him smaller because he had to get off the Brazilian diet.

People are cutting more weight to gain an edge now. The game has evolved in that sense.

All of the weight classes are getting bigger and people are cutting more and more weight.

They tried to curb this with the IV ban but they have still cut the weight. And missing weight is happening more.

For instance you have guys like GSP that when they came onto the scene were HUGE WW’s, at the end of his WW run he was considered on the smaller side of WW.

Dennis Siver who once fought at 170, has fought at 145 which is rediculous. He wasn’t small at 170 at the time.

MW used to be full of guys robbie lawlers size, now we have guys like sonnen, weidman, rocksalt , roidachinni etc. those guys were LHW size a few years before.

It’s just evolving as everything does.

They do need some kind of percentage limit I think, just to keep weight missing from happening as often as it seems to do now.

10% seems like a good range.

constantly dwarfed? the fuck are you talking about?

conor really wasn't that much bigger than aldo, and holloway is taller.

idk but it was the only reason he ever lost imo he's a much better fighter than Max and Conor
hahahahahaahahahahahaha

yeah, SIZE was the reason he lost to conor.

conor was just so big, it was the only reason he landed that accurate, fast counter punch!

He was never huge back in the day. Sherdoggers say that about every dominant champ. "He's so big, he needs to go up to the next weight class."

Did everyone forget how awful he looked at the last weighin? Hes having more trouble making weight now than he ever did before.

Smaller weight divisions are relatively new in the UFC, so they've gone through a quick evolution. First you have natural FW's who have no other option than to fight at FW establishing the division, once that happened the division became lucrative enough for bigger guys to go through the pain of heavy weight cutting. And now you have 6'1 guys like Zabit Margomedsharipov in the division.

Same thing happened in other divisions. There is a reason why Frankie Edgar, one of the LW all time-greats, moved down to FW .

Edgar isn't small at FW anymore. He's a straight up midget.

Back in the day, he was HUGE. Now, he's constantly dwarfed by the top guys. What happened?

I don’t think he was ever huge.
That was a myth based on the fact that he struggled with the cut, and because he was bigger than Faber, Edgar, and Gamburyan.
He had no size advantage on Mike Brown or Hominick.

He is still huge for the division but has just fought two pretty large ones recently in Holloway and McGregor (hell McGregor is a huge lightweight)

Edgar looked two weight classes below him when they fought for the Interim Belt.

As posters have already mentioned it is either USADA, IV ban, or a combination of both.

put him next to Cub,Frankie,Lamas,Zombie and he's still huge

the only guys that really dwarfed him was Conor who was MASSIVE for FW and Holloway who is tall and lanky

that's one way to prevent Tony from manhandling your boy.

Sure you cried about Conor fighting at FW, but perfectly fine with seeing Ngannou try to make LW if it means you get to watch Conor die. What a weird little dork lmao

cause before mma wasnt that popular, fighters werent making any money n it was perfect sport for manlets that couldnt do other sports, but still could pretend they were pro athletes

now with mma getting more exposure n fighters pay getting better more n more ppl with normal body proportion are getting into mma n beating up on the manlets

eventually when (if) mma pay scale becomes comparable to football/nba much better athletes will come to ufc n will push aside those normal folks that got rid of manlets
