Vin Diesel in Talks to Star in Valiant's BLOODSHOT Movie from Sony

vbPThic.jpg

Vin Diesel is in talks to star in Sony’s “Bloodshot” movie based on the Valiant comic, TheWrap has learned.

Sony revealed it would be moving forward with its five-film shared universe plan for joint franchises based on the Valiant comic books “Harbinger” and “Bloodshot.”

“Bloodshot” is about a mortally wounded soldier resurrected with cutting-edge nanotechnology and tasked with rounding up superpowered outcasts known as “harbingers.” “Bloodshot” was created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton in 1992.

The film will also reunite Diesel with “Fast and the Furious” mega-producer Neal Moritz, who is producing alongside Valiant’s Dinesh Shamdasani.

Dave Wilson, who is “Deadpool” director Tim Miller’s partner at Blur Studios, is attached to direct. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (“Arrival”) is writing the screenplay.

According to insiders, Sony and Wilson plan to follow in the footsteps of the recent success of “Logan” and “Deadpool” with an R-rated take on the comic adaptation that will be tonally and aesthetically influenced by high-concept, sci-fi blockbusters of the late ’80s including “Robocop,” “Terminator,” and “Total Recall.”

Marvel’s BLACK WIDOW Movie in the Works With Jac Schaeffer Writing

Marvel is finally pushing ahead with the highly anticipated “Black Widow” standalone movie starring Scarlett Johansson, with Jac Schaeffer penning the script.

Sources say this is still very early development, as the film has no greenlight, but naming a writer is the closest the studio has come to moving forward on a standalone pic. Marvel President Kevin Feige met with several candidates before tapping Schaeffer, and Marvel execs met with Johansson to discuss what they wanted from a “Black Widow” writer.

Schaeffer is an up and coming scribe who broke out with her Black List script “The Shower,” a comedy about an alien invasion during a baby shower which caught the eye of Anne Hathaway, who quickly attached herself to star in the pic.

Hathaway was so impressed with her work that she soon tapped Schaeffer to write “Nasty Women,” a new female-centric take on “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” that also stars Hathaway.

Fans of the character have been pushing for her to get own movie since she first appeared in “Iron Man 2” and with the latest phase of Marvel films coming to a close, Marvel saw this as the best time to move forward with the project.

Johansson has appeared as the character in six films, the next one being this summer’s “Avengers: Infinity War.”

X-MEN Shakeup: DEADPOOL 2, NEW MUTANTS, GAMBIT Get New Release Dates

Fox is shaking up the release schedule of its X-Men movies, giving Deadpool 2, The New Mutants and Gambit new opening dates.

In what is sure to be a treat for Deadpool fans, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 Ryan Reynolds smash is being pushed up two weeks, from June 1 to May 18.

The move puts the action comedy against Sony's Slender Man but, more importantly, has it opening one week before Disney's Solo: A Star Wars Story. It's a strategic play as even second weeks have been exceptionally strong for Star Wars movies. (The Last Jedi earned a big $71.5 million in its second weekend in December.)

The New Mutants, Josh Boone's horror-tinged take on Marvel's teen heroes, gets pushed back 10 months. The movie, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton, is jumping from April 13 to Feb. 22, 2019.

Insiders say one reason for the change is for the studio to avoid having an overlap with X-Men movies in certain overseas marketplaces, where Mutants and Deadpool 2 would have been in theaters at the same time.

Finally, Gambit is seeing its release date move from Feb. 14, 2019, to June 7, 2019. The Channing Tatum vehicle just lost its director — Gore Verbinski exited Thursday — and the search is on for a replacement.

But studio insiders believe the project, which is described as having a heavy comedic tone revolving around a heist, will do better as a summer Marvel movie.

As for why The New Mutants is getting pushed back nearly a year after promotional campaigns had already commenced, an insider who spoke with TheWrap said that the move is being made because the film isn’t scary enough.

Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Quentin Tarantino's Charles Manson Movie

Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino may be reuniting for the director's upcoming Charles Manson movie. The actor is in talks to star in the ninth film from the director, after having previously worked together on 2012's Django Unchained.

While exact plot details are being kept under wraps, the movie has been described as a 1969-set ensemble piece that in some way involves Manson and the murder of Sharon Tate.

Several big name stars are still circling the secretive project, with Margot Robbie and Tom Cruise being eyed for big roles.

After a heated bidding war, Sony picked up the rights to the feature back in November, and have set an Aug. 9, 2019 release date. That day also marks the 50th anniversary of the murders of Tate and her friends by the followers of Manson.

DiCaprio hasn't been seen on the big screen since his Oscar-winning turn in The Revenant, but has lined up numerous high-profile projects, including a reunion with longtime collaborator Martin Scorsese for a Teddy Roosevelt biopic at Paramount.

Clive Owen Joins Will Smith in Ang Lee's Sci-Fi Action Thriller GEMINI MAN

Clive Owen is in talks to join Will Smith in Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media’s “Gemini Man,” which Ang Lee will direct.

The exact details behind the role are unknown other then that it will be an antagonist role. Lee is expected to meet with Tatiana Maslany, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Elizabeth Debicki for the female lead in the coming weeks, sources tell Variety.

Skydance came on to the project, which has been in development for two decades, last year. Jerry Bruckheimer, Skydance chief David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are producing. Don Murphy and Chad Oman are executive producing.

The film follows an over-the-hill hitman who faces off against a younger clone of himself. The actioner is set to bow on Oct. 4, 2019.

“Gemini Man” was first set up at Disney in 1997 as a pitch by Darren Lemke, with Murphy producing and Tony Scott directing. Curtis Hanson was also attached to direct at one point as well before Lee came on in the spring of 2017.

Skydance is still figuring out when production will get under way given Smith’s schedule, but most expect it up and running by spring of 2018.

Owen is coming off his two season stint on the Cinemax drama “The Knick” and was most recently seen in “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.” He can be seen next as Claudius in “Ophelia,” a new take on the “Hamlet” story from the perspective of the title character.

A movie where the State Department looks competent, smart, and professional?

But, Hollywood tells me State Department Foreign Service Officers are clueless about the countries they are assigned to. And their jobs are only go to swanky parties drinking champagne and eat crabcakes.

Too much dialog, not enough pew pew pew.

That is, unless they need to send in the big guns to save that guy's ass

Walter Hamada Named New DC Films President After JUSTICE LEAGUE Fallout

Justice League, fizzled. While grossing $651 million worldwide, did not leave audiences wanting more.

I disagree.

While I don't desire to see anymore Justice League movies, I do want to see more stand-alone movies that feature characters within the Justice League like Cyborg, WW, and Aquaman.

Creed has found his opponent. German-Romanian boxer Florian Munteanu will square off against Michael B. Jordan in Creed 2, MGM and Warner Bros.’ sequel to the 2015 hit that updated Rocky for a new generation, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Steven Caple will direct the movie, which is set to begin shooting in March in Philadelphia.

Creed starred Sylvester Stallone as boxer Rocky Balboa, who mentors Adonis Johnson (Jordan), the son of his rival, Apollo Creed.

The new pic also features a blast-from-the-past update: Munteanu will play the son of Ivan Drago, the ruthless Soviet boxer from Rocky IV, which was made at a high tension point during the 1980s Cold War. Dolph Lundgren starred as Drago in the 1985 film and will also be returning for Creed 2. Stallone and Tessa Thompson, who starred in Creed, are also returning.

The film will be moving at top speed as MGM, which has a distribution with Annapurna, has set a Nov. 21 release date.
