Good Tequila is always a favorite. I got a couple of nice bottles of scotch for Christmas that I've been working on.

And I agree 100% on the privates. I put together a list or strengths & weaknesses & my professor's doing a great job tailoring our sessions to help me out. We're primarily focusing on guard retention & chaining together side control escapes with guard retention. I'm already seeing some positive results.

1/4/18
BJJ - 2 hours

1 hour class last night followed by 1 hour of sparring. Class focused on a basic arm bar from closed guard progression. defend the arm bar using the traditional stacking defense. Worked that, then worked from the bottom on applying a pendulum sweep, or an omoplata seep or a reverse arm bar, depending on much pressure the defender is stacking with. Sparring, we did 10 minute rounds with 1 minute breaks. My 1st 4 rounds were 4 different black belts. Fun stuff. Got murdered, but still fun.

Conditioning:
2.52 mi, 30:32 - avg HR: 131, pace: 12:04/mi

Did another easy run today. 5 minute walk, 20 minute run, 5 minute walk. Did a better job today than I did on Wednesday. Didn't walk in the middle (much) and my heart rate was under 150 almost the entire time. Maybe one more of these & it will be time to increase the time to 35 minutes or so.

BJJ Private Lesson in a couple hours..

I lost my taste for scotch somewhere in 2015. Now I switch between tequilla (always a respado), whisky and whiskey.(yes I said whiskey twice but differently)

Tough night, but solid training. 1 hours of specific training, working whatever positions we wanted, followed by 1 hour of sparring.

And screwed up my knee this weekend playing volleyball. Damn injuries. Its about the size of a grapefruit right now. But I didn't twist it, I just landed weird on the patella. SO it's really swollen & bruised, but doesn't hurt that bad, so hopefully the swelling will go down in a few days.

2/17/2018

BJJ - 1 Hour Private

Worked on guard. Worked some nice transitions: Closed guard to open guard with feet on hips & sleeve grips, shins on biceps. FRom there, if my opponent is pressuring me, I can shoot for omoplata easily. If he is sitting back, then I have 2 good choices:
1) elevate my hips (but stay square) and get my foot to bicep. Can sweep or shoot for omoplata depending on his reaction.
2) push his hips way back & flatten him out. If he stays down, then I can bring him back in with 1 arm in , 1 out & shoot for omoplata. If he stands, then I can go for tripod sweep. If he defends tripod then DLR is usually there. He defend DLR by turning knee out, I can go to spider, then to lasso if needed. Reset to feet on hips.

Drilling these transitions is super helpful - really trying to have a purpose for changing position or guard. Always want to have something I'm trying to accomplish.
