3 wrist locks, notes: chicken wing one of uke's arms out and pin the wrist or elbow to a hard structure on your torso> hip escape on that side and get your thigh behind their upper arm keeping it tight to you so uke cant pull their arm free> ensure their forearm is at 90 degrees to the mat> use one or two hands to cup the elbow or wrist and lever into the joint> drive your hips up to complete if necessary.
If uke drapes a hand across your torso figure four the arm and use your top hand to pull uke's hand back toward themselves.

Rounds.

Thursday

No gi with coach Le Gourrierec:
Drilling escape of rnc with both hooks in and seat belt, notes: baseball bat grip the attacking arm, put your head on the outside of uke's and bridge hard, once their attacking arm is to the outside of your shoulder you can fight their hooks and come up.
If you're attacking the back and uke attempts to escape as above use your top leg to butterfly hook, push them onto their side keeping the seat-belt, come to they're back so their are on their side and you have the potential to S.

Went to a gym at home and we just rolled for an hour and a half straight, learned some new tricks and got schooled too.
Good jam, will def consider making it my home gym if I return.
Head coach is cool and staunch as fuck......OSSSSSSS

Tuesday
no gi with coach Le Gourrierec:
We do riding mount, key lock and transition to arm bar.
Keys: one hand on elbow and the other on wrist with monkey grips, use torso to separate uke's elbow (rolling pin), pin inside arm elbow against uke's neck to remove all space, if they hip escape move to s mount and key the top arm.
Rounds.

Wednesday
animal movement and linked drills on bag in minimal space (2 squares of mat)

Thursday
no gi with coach Le Gourrierec:
We do mount escape and transition to sweep or straight ankle.
Keys: Don't allow uke to cross their feet at your flank, 'pray' and shimmy so uke rides your hips, hip bump, T frame against uke's hips, 1 of uke's legs should rise, forward hip escape to that side, take the ankle spin and reguard against that leg, frame and hip escape as necessary, either technical stand up controlling the leg and work your pass or work the leg lock.
Rounds.

gi class with prof. Stefanutti:
We warm up with harai goshi, keys: cross step walk into uke lifting your collar grip high with your elbow tucked tight, use the momentum of your sleeve grip and walking step to help you move uke onto your reaping leg...........throw thee shit out of them.

We drill bow and arrow and arm bar from turtle, keys: when you get uke to bow and arrow get your knees high to help with the choke, when uke blocks the choke slip your non choking arm around their near arm and grip your collar, switch your choking hand to cross face allowing your leg to slip over their head and preventing them turning into you, pinch knees, two on one, thumb up..........snap.

You can also use the kimura as an option utilizing an elbow to cross face.

Berimbolo from top half, keys: switch base and shoulder roll across uke dominating the leg hook take a grip of the outside leg and the back of the pants, unhook and rehook to the leg you are gripping, lift uke's hips off the mat with your pants grips and make a slight hip escape, use your grips to drive uke through coming to their back.

Rounds......reaped and calf sliced when homie tried to turn and run.

Saturday

gi class with prof. Vela: we worked on four entry's to 411, my partner and I drilled the first until it stuck, keys: half guard - frame everywhere you can and dive to underhook the outside leg, slight hip escape then your other side leg moves to butterfly, elevate and drag uke's leg out, pull uke's weight over you, switch to x guard uke's far leg stretching them away, sit up and get a grip of uke's further leg, keep the 'butterfly' hook and pull uke's leg toward you allowing your own near leg to slip through, triangle legs and sit up rolling uke away, reach for uke's further leg and pull it over the top of their leg which is closer to your, ensure you slide your hips deep throughout the movement.

If uke drops their weight on you turn to post on your head, kick your outside hook out and over uke's leg and triangle, use your opposite side hand to post and drive backward using your hips to help momentum, you can now turn into uke to come to the position.

We were also shown two types of Imanari, the first from half and the second a proper diving Imanari.

After rounds I watched two senior students work reverse de la riva to ashe garami, they also used a butterfly type hook and same leg grip to escape mount, side control and recover to an attacking guard, they then moved to 411.
They advised not to attempt to force a sub as the 411 is a really good controlling position, if you lose control switch your hips down and come up hard to scramble to the top.

Dead hangs to warm up then Gi with prof Stefanutti:
I flow roll with a purp for 10 minutes then we roll for an hour.
Purp showed my a simple way to bolo if uke is in bottom half and you cant get inside, keys: double outside pants grip, roll across uke and kick leg up hard, you'll start to come to their back so hip escape a little so you can square up and drag them through.

Saturday
Gi class with prof. Vela.........................

Do bag work for an hour in the morning.
Getting dental work done today so cant really grapple.
Come in and have a chat to one of the brothers who's grading this week, our end of year is coming up and it should be a good boogie, unfortunately I won't be able to go..........
I do some body-weight stuff: 4>8>1 dead hangs with a pause at the bottom, 9>1 pushups and crunches.
I watch prof Stefanutti's no gi class, he does a shuck to go by, a standing seatbelt escape to back take alternating to an inside single.
Wednesday
Teeth and gums still sketchy so just do some bag work which is quite fun, have been watching Jomhod and Neungthep Sagami again as I really like their punching style.
It's also pumping hot in Melbourne so it feels good to get a sweat on and get the body warm and flexible like Thailand.
I've been wearing mma gloves, I dont like them.
The heat is a bugger for jits though as it heightens the claustrophobia, I'll have to play open guard or be on top.
Thursday
De la riva, tripod, sickle, reverse de la riva; keys: 3 grips pull and one pushes, come up to knee slice or long step, reach for the leg to move, small circle your hooks instead of making big movements.
Rolls.
Play/ drill.
Squad.

Saturday take the boy to grading, good to see a couple of the brosefs get new belts, lose my temper a little as boy is being a boy.

No gi with coach Le Gourrierec:
We do arm bar, keys: pass controlling joints, stay connected and always have two grips, when uke frames place knee in their armpit and pull that tricep to the ceiling, tuck their arm under yours keeping your hips tight to their shoulder as you step over, sit and get the figure four stabbing their elbow into your chest, if they sit up under hook their near side leg...

King of the hill then rounds.

Around 15min of crunches and various hip up to triangles and extensions
Pronated grip pulls
Round 1- 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
Round 2- 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
With little to no rest
Prehab knee

Gi with prof. Stefanutti: We do general warm up then a large outer reap, I love take downs....
We then do a sweep from omoplata: from the position triangle your legs and stay as tight as possible, point your knees away from uke and underhook their near side leg, roll uke over you in the direction that your knees are pointed and come on top keeping control of the arm....
From here you can take two on one of uke's wrist and sit into their shoulder, sit parralel to them on the mat and swing your legs over crossing your feet to maintain control, finish with the straight arm lock....

We do 7min rounds, I fight to stay in a dominant position, quite satisfying, feels good mang

Thursday

First on the scene at a fucked up car crash on the cycle into the dojo, reacted well but adrenaline smashing me hard. Everyone involved mostly ok, one dude bolted up the street clueless after having gone though windscreen and breaking his nose, double fist size hematoma on his noggin fuck a duck, impatient traffic cunt still trying to pour past the scene without assisting.

No gi with coach Le Gourrierec: We do escape from side control: bridge, hip escape and come out on a single then king of the hill then rounds.
Less stiff today, tried some things and they turned out ok.

Gi class in the evening with prof. Stefanutti: We do basic cross collar from mount and arm bar to re bar when uke defends then rounds.

Friday

Gi class with prof. Stefanutti: we do sweep from omo as per Tuesday then rounds.

Had my wisdom teeth out over the weekend, one of them was broketed so mouth feels like minced meat, am on antibiotics and painkillers for the next couple of days, surgeon told me not to train......

Tuesday

Deads: 1*8@40 1*8@60 3*5@80
Push ups 12>1=78

Gi class with prof. Stefanutti: From standing gain 3 finger sleeve and over shoulder grip, reach as far as possible with the over shoulder to help break posture, step to sleeve side/ outside of leg and yank uke down, place opposite butterfly into meat of thigh and break own fall onto over shoulder grip side simultaneously kicking hook as uke collapses, switch hips and come up keeping grips.

To smash single X: Sink posture and take collar grip turn away from outside hook and, keeping arm pinched in, pop it off with that side elbow, take a pants grip of the other hook at the knee and force it back, reach around with your other hand and pass the grip, now pull the leg so it is completely behind you, simultaneously step forward and swivel uke using your grips so you come to pass.

If uke's 'second' hook passes in front of your hip you can drop the knee of your trapped leg into uke's chest, reach across and under the hook and swing your arm up and back so the hook passes in front of you, you can turn into uke's thigh so you come to leg drag, your ankle will still be trapped so you can drop your hips into uke to temporarily immobilise and window wiper your foot out.

Rounds, another stripe, lols.

Wednesday

Drill for 20min on the mma bag, passing standing and passing without hands low with shoulder pressure and fifth limb.
Say goodbye to one of the homies, dude is a scholar and a gent, hope to cross paths with him in the future.

Thursday

Flow roll with purp to get warm then Gi class with prof. Stefanutti we do reverse de la riva and spider hook sweep forward and backward and inverting to kiss of the dragon:
Be on side to hook, keep three points of contact, break uke's posture and drive them away with the foot you want to dlr, get your grips of the dlr leg then switch your outside leg to spider hook, if uke is at distance you can drive them away, unhook as you come up keeping grips and pin the hips to leg drag, if they close you can swing them at a 45 over the shoulder on the same side as your spider, if uke closes hard you can frame their near side collar to stagger and feint to help break posture, switch your frame to hook the dlr leg, swing and invert under, switch your outside leg hook to drive knee into back of uke's knee, regain grips of uke's jacket and belt, circle rdlr hook around so that shin is in the back of uke's other knee, drive uke away and sit them into position where you have their back, get seat belt and both hooks.

Rounds.

Pull ups 5>1*3 as fast as possible.
Bridging with the hanging battle rope.
Drilling switching hips and passing on the mma bag.

Friday

Gi class with prof. Vela we do as Thursday, I try technique from earlier in the week of leg dragging against the single X and also manage a couple of bollo from 50/50.

Saturday

Gi class with prof. Vela

I haven't written anything for around three weeks so I'm just going to summarize via bullets and paragraph some feels and goals for the coming year.

Training frequency has been at least 5 times per week with at least one form of body weight challenge per session, there's been no heavy lifting.

I've focused on staying on top and passing with higher belts and letting weaker partners pass to the best position, escaping/ sweeping and getting to the best position/ submitting.

I've been hitting the ezekiel as frequently as possible and a couple of simple cross collar and sliding chokes.
I'm still defaulting to the straight ankle from ashe garami when in trouble as I can often sit up knee slice or stand to 'restart' however I'm going to change this out so it's less frequent and find another technique or position to spam.
There are several team members who are far quicker than I am if we go for the same lock and I do get caught, I think it's due to my lankyness and lack of timing.

I'm also playing a bit smarter ie I try and use agility and keep distance against heavier partners and crush smaller partners using fifth limb, I'm having some small success and would like to use combinations and of speed and crush to keep partners/ opponents guessing.

Techniques: 1) deep de la riva and sweeps, including kiss of the dragon, 2) single spider hook and sweeps, 3) passing half and dominating far side arm using kimura, 4) simple single leg take down, 5) simple arm bar and triangle.

I've had trouble with bashing my fingers up grip fighting and gripping when I guard, I have synovial fluid leaking out of joints from sprain.
I also have a fairly severe back sprain caused by body triangles and cranks, I'm really disappointed as I've been working hard to enter a round robin as a birthday present to myself, youth is wasted on the young ......or......life begins at 40?

Ideas: 1) pass using double unders and warrior walk to back step to nullify uke's hip strength, 2) swing to deep half as uke passes but use x to come completely under to their back, 3) get single butterfly on uke's opposite leg, reach over the back for the far lat and boot up and pull hard to initiate scramble.

Goals............

Natural muscle relaxers:
Almond, blueberry, cayenne, chamomile

i like your detailed descriptions of the techniques. what belt are you?

i like your detailed descriptions of the techniques. what belt are you?
I'm a white belt, I try and write the technique down later in the day after class, it forces me to recall detail

I'm off to a yoga for fighters session that my gym runs tonight, I'm gonna get some pull ups in this evening.
Late last year I was doing one of 12>1, 11>1, 10>1 press ups or 8>1, 7>1, 6>1 pull ups per session.

I'm going to try.

Week 1
Day 1 -30% of max rep set on the minute for 10 minutes.
Day 2 -60% of max rep set with as much weight as I can carry for 5 sets with a two minute rest between sets.
Week 2
Day 1 -40% of max rep set on the minute for 5 minutes, 30% of max rep set on the minute for 5 minutes.
Day 2 -Increase weight and drop a rep.
Week 3
Day 1 -40% of max rep set on the minute for 10 minutes.
Day 2 -Increase weight and drop a rep.

After week 3 retest your max rep set of pull-ups.
Reset.

I've also booked in to see a physio for all my aches and pains, hopefully it will be a case of movement to keep me on the mat and not referral to a specialist...............although..............he's a competitive black belt with a prof. in physio so I'll be in good hands, he's also the head coach of my gyms sister gym in another location so happy days.

Dude comes back from Abu Dhabi next week.

I also have permission from my coaches to film the tech portion of the class so less writing for me, I'll focus instead on measuring what's worked for me and the slight adjustments I need to make.

I must admit I experimented a little to much last year, this is the year of being a rock, application is what counts.

Since my back froze I've been incorporating yoga into my daily routine, I'm mostly doing poses for back, hip and leg joint extension.
The yoga guru's name is Thao Sor Jaipet, he's cool and has some humor, he also teaches Muay at the site.
The first class I went to he did a flow with us that incorporated, cat, downward and upward facing dog, single leg king pigeon, warrior and so forth all which really bit down into my stiff areas.
I sat and watched Craig Jone's nogi class prior, when I feel up to it I'll have to indulge as other opportunities will be opening for him and my window of learning from him is short.

Tuesday

I did a couple of nogi classes with coach Le Gourrierec and coach Smith, prior to class I did a jilted flow and some bear crawls to limber up, once class finished my back turned into a rock.
We did coach Le Gourrierec's usual medley of pummel, look to take back standing, king of the hill, rounds etc.
I found it really hard switching my hips to the appropriate side.
I tried to just use technique, take things easy and tap early.

A couple of partners didn't comply to my tap which really concerns me as they're high belts and the discourse with some partners is such that they see me as white belt meat.....I dont see any of them paying my bills when they injure me, they're being hyper hostile off the mat too so maybe I fucked their mum.....most likely Oedipus complex.

  • There's a sweep from bottom if I get the head and arm triangle and lever using the opposite side hook.
  • You keep good control with the shin of the S mount hook close to uke's hips as you take the back, if you sit uke up and onto that side they cannot escape past the hook.
  • When mounted I can lever most white belts off me driving a rdl hook into a leg, I can then stand controlling the leg or switch to ashe garami.
  • I can also take the single from guard.
  • When I have the under hook standing a need to reach up and pull down hard on uke's trap, this will help me disrupt their balance and position.
  • I can get a foot sweep on the same side as above.
  • Coach Le Gourrierec showed us to lever uke 'over' like a steering wheel and go under the under hooked arm, switch the hook to block uke's knee so they cant turn into you and get to the back with an S grip.
  • I find the S grip the most useful hand position when I have uke's posture broken in my closed guard.
  • The simple omo plata sweep works on everyone, I need to be aware of the reguard as I turn and come on top.

CBD dojo, hi to English PT, hi to the coach.
3 Clusters of pulls with prone hold in the 2min rest.
8-1,7-1,6-1.
Collingwood dojo, hi to the coach.
Half hour of staggered asana focusing on posterior chain.
45 minute myofascial release with balls.

Saturday

Go to St Kilda gym with boy to see Physio/Prof. Giles.
He asks me a few questions regarding work and my game.
He pinpoints the issue and manipulates it.
He explains that its a facet joint issue and gives me some strength and stretching exercises.
I see him again in a week.

Over the course of the weekend I continue to do yoga stretches and the exercises that Prof Giles has given me.

Monday

Back on the bike, 10 min skip, Downward facing dog and hip stretches.
Move on bag without hands to replicate pressure passing/ hip extension for glutes, sit ups.
Emom pullups - Day 1 -30% (5) of max rep (16) set on the minute for 10 minutes.
Bird dogs.

Tuesday

Nogi class with coach Le Gourrierec:
More wrestling/ top control movements to warm up.
Control ankles and either push into pocket and/or pinch uke's legs between yours, drive their knees back and, as they frame, roll your shoulders to shrug their frame off, get some control of their top half and drop your hips, keep knees off the floor, they'll still have a hook so kick forward and slight backstep to come to top half or side control.
King of the hill session with bottom man pulling/ sweeping and top pushing to pass, the arm drag is easy here, I also focus on dlr.
Rounds.
Prof. Giles stretches to finish.

Gi class with prof. Stefanutti:
Prof. Vela leads us in warmup then class does defensive throws that I sit out.
Technique is X guard: double sleeve, one hand switch to lapel same side foot stretches uke away, sit up and opposite leg comes to shin on shin, remaining sleeve grip hugs leg, pull uke off balance to collar side, this will lift the weight off uke's trapped leg, loop shin on shin leg through to single X, switch collar grip to far pants leg and change single hook of near leg to double hooks of far leg, drive own near side knee through to the inside of uke's knee, this will assist you in getting the sweep, hip up and pull grips, hip escape and technical stand to combat base or headquarters.

A second option comes from the initial unbalancing phase, switch your shin on shin arm to an under hook and grasp at the knee joint, hip escape and technical stand keep all grips then, once in combat base switch grips to two on one of the knee, stay in a low horse stance and drag uke's trapped leg into the pocket looking to pass.

We then do specific drilling one minute passing one minute sweeping using the guards switching partners.
My rolls were ok, tripod passing, using the lapel to trap arms, being a bit tougher on my partners both when I pass and keeping the integrity of my guard.

One of the browns was watching my rolls and reminded me to hand fight at all costs and prevent side control and the cross face with angular frames, don't defend placing a foot on your knee as the structure is easily collapsed, instead keep that leg and hip as an active frame.
If your opponent gets to a kimura suck your elbows in hard and, worst case scenario they attempt to swing a leg over and stabilize, block the leg and forward hip escape to get your head out and turn into them.

Prof. Giles stretches and some yoga poses.

Wednesday.

Got up later but got to have a chat to my boy.
Biked in and couldn't find a harness for weight so did repeat of week 1 non weighted pulls which is 5 emom for 10.
I'll have to remember to bring something in to use as a harness, I'm yet to test a weight but I'd imagine it wont be anything more than 20kg, there's a chain at the gym so I might just use that.
60% (9) of max rep set with as much weight (?) as I can carry for 5 sets with a two minute rest between sets.
Bird dogs.

Thursday

Nogi class with coach Le Gourrierec:
We do regular warm up with the addition of shot drills.
We do side control escapes, situational drilling with partners and rounds.
If uke is high you can look to forward escape with the torso hook, turn and come to back/ side control of turtle or you can gain control of the arm and swing into a darce/ anaconda position.
If uke has good torso pressure look to get frames, bridge, under hook the arm, pull them into you then re-bridge and reverse.

Gi class with prof. Stefanutti:
We do shin on to shin to single X to X to sweep to leg drag then rounds.

Saturday

Physio with prof. Giles, I need to incorporate advanced prone holds in my routine.
Gi class with prof. Vela:
We do butterfly to single X to X to sweeps.
Big homie purp also shows me single X to reverse X to sweep to honey hole to calf slice as uke falls. If going from left to right punch your right hook all the way through to get a triangle, reach under and behind uke to get a pants grip of the far leg.

Sunday

Work at Australian National pro, got to watch all the bbs compete and quietly support the homies.

No gi class with coach Le Gourrierec:
Today we do his version of open guard to shin on shin to single X to X to combat base, we do situational drilling swapping positions and partners.
Coach Le Gourrierec explains that the inside hook is used to block and the outside hook is used to lock.

In the evening I do Gi class with coach Le Gourrierec with assistance from prof. Vela:
We do single X to X to combat base, we do situational drilling swapping positions and partners.
Prof. Vela also reiterates the reverse X to 411 which can result in a sweep which submits the opponent as they fall.
He also shows me a method to get to the positions from half guard.

Keys: From reverse X you must ensure you can pull uke off balance so they post both hands and weight is taken off the near side leg, punch your left leg through and triangle, reach with your left arm behind uke to gain a grip of the far leg pants, hip up hard keeping what is now the near side leg, under hook the leg and pull up to finish.

I do week 1's pull ups again: 30% of max rep set on the minute for 10 minutes.
Thursdays session needs to be: 40% of max rep set on the minute for 5 minutes, 30% of max rep set on the minute for 5 minutes, so 5*7 then 5*5.

Saturday

Gi class with prof. Vela:
When working from the left> uke is in your half and posts the outside leg slicing the near side knee through> take a four finger of their outside leg and butterfly the shin of the slicing leg sitting up and hooking the back of the knee with that side arm> hip escape slightly and drive your butterfly hook in driving your other shin up into the same leg forcing uke to stand> swing into ashe garame keeping grips> If uke drops their weight forward swing into reverse X> the key is to keep their near side leg 'light'> slide your left leg through and triangle> reach behind with your left passing the grip of their far leg from right to left> hip up and under hook their entangle legs submitting them as they fall.

Rounds.
EMOM 10 pushups.

Thursday
