My ADD Training Log 2017-18

Not much to report here lately. Knee still a little swollen, went to the Dr. about it - he just told me to continue to take it easy & alternate heat & ice. Also saw a dermotologist last week who removed a couple of skin-cancer-ish spots on my head & several moles. So got to stay off the mats until everything heals. He also removed a wart from my finger, so I can't even grip a barbell right now until that gets a little better. Fucking getting old & falling apart. At least I can still drink. Will hopefully get in the gym sometime today or tomorrow & see what I can do.

Quick workout today to hit the guns. Also started a Keto diet at the beginning of the week with my wife. She wanted to try it, so easier if we're both doing it. Probably mostly water weight but I've dropped from 228.6 on Sunday to 221.6 Thursday am. Would like to get under 210.
 
Also - got some phenominal scotch for my birthday!! A bottle of Johnny Walker Blue & a 16-year old bottle of Lagavulin and a 16 year old bottle of Aberlour.

Had some moles come back positive for melanoma so had to get 2 spots on my head & one on my neck removed. Took a pretty big chunk out of my neck, have internal stitches & about 3" of stitches across the back of my neck. No strenuous exercise for the next 2 weeks while this heals - will be limited to walking & biking probably. Sucks, can't seem to catch a break this year.

Meanwhile, looking at tropical locations for a vacation. Maybe Dominican Republic? I don't know, maybe with the skin cancer I should just go to alaska or something lol.

Got out for a walk/run - went about 3 miles. Had technical difficulty with my app, so don't have exact numbers. Still have stitches in my neck, can't really do anything too intense right now.

Good workout today, kept everything moving with short breaks. Neck still felt a little weird at times, don't know if thats mental or still healing a bit. was told no grappling for 2 more weeks to make sure it heals internal as well.

BJJ - 1 Hour

Went to jiujitsu tonight, wanted to take it easy but Kelvin Gastelum showed up - he's prepping for the Jacare fight & I was the only other brown belt there. So I trained with Kelvin, tried to go light - he's a super nice guy. They were filming for UFC Countdown I think, so I'll probably be on the show.

Also, didn't feel it while I was there, but somehow popped the bursa in my right kneecap again. Iced it when I got home, but no squats today. Will continue to ice it, probably need to get a knee sleeve with a padded patella. Sucks.
 
That's pretty cool that you got to roll with Gastelum and might be on Countdown. Not so cool that you tweaked your knee.

How is the Keto diet going? I don't think I ever got into ketosis but low-carb has been going great for me over the Winter.
 
Hi DrB, good to hear from you!

The Keto experiment wasn't great for me. After 2 weeks my blood pressure, cholesterol, liver function, Uric Acid numbers were all way too high. I'm genetically predisposed to all of that stuff being high, and Keto just seemed to exacerbate it. Plus I didn't feel good. Although I did drop 8 pounds in 2 weeks.

My wife is still doing it & feels great.

Good stuff today! Been forever since I benched 265, 275 should be just around the corner. Gonna test the knee again tomorrow, maybe I can squat - who knows?

Went to Santa Barbara this weekend & got a new celtic tattoo on my ribs. Won't be back on the mats until this heals, maybe mid next week...

Took it easy on squats today since my knee was bothering me last week. Worked fine today though so who knows. I made sure I warmed up good & put knee sleeves on before warm ups. Maybe that helped. Couldn't wear my belt because I got a new tattoo on my side, so everything was beltless today.
