Your top 10 most influential albums

I always prefer Closer over Unknown Pleasures for those choosing Joy Division. Arrangement was better on that album

Nice. The first time I saw them was with strapping young lad in a pretty small venue it was an awesome show. The second time I saw them was at ozfest which wasn't that great they only played about half an hour. Norma Jean was there also.

I did see underoath play an awesome show in 2006 with my ex. I'm pretty sure them and Norma Jean share a few members.
I saw Norma Jean and Underoath in 2006. Can’t remember the dates but it was in a church (only time been in church since except for funerals) also the first time I saw a fight in a church. Lead singer for Norma Jean is from Around the Ft.Smith area.

Good for including that bald aussie lawyer turned musician turned politician

Man, could name so many

Burial - Burial
Opeth - Blackwater Park
The Smiths - Hatful of Hollow (I know it's not a proper Smiths album but it was my first)
Deftones - White Pony
Radiohead - OK Computer
Notorious BIG - Ready to Die
Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell
Oasis - What's the Story (Morning Glory)
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
The Verve - Urban Hymns

Same with Modest Mouse-Good News for me. It introduced me to indie rock and so much more music but it's not even in their top 3 albums

Honorable mention 10. I could write different versions of these lists forever...

Embrace self titled
Dag Nasty Can I Say
Dinosaur Jr Yr Living All Over Me
Sonic Youth Daydream Nation
Ride Nowhere
Swervedriver Raise
My Bloody Valentine Loveless
Animal Collective Sung Tongs
Gang of Four Entertainment
No Age Everything in Between
how old are you guys?

Since it says influence taste and not necessarly favorites so I'm guessing each album would have to be different from one another to influence your taste

English Beat - I Just can't Stop
Yes - Fragile
Roxy Music - Avalon
Blondie - Parallel Lines
Radiohead - Kid A
Human League - Dare
The Clash - London Calling
Prince - Controversy
The Doors - LA Woman
Joy Division - Closer

A lot of these are driven by instrumental preference.

Sgt Pepper's. Cliche, but I listened to it every day as a child. Many of these are similarly records - records! - I listened to growing up.

John Coltrane- Giant Steps

Miles Davis- Bitches Brew

Pink Floyd- The Wall. First record I ever bought with my own money.

Dead Kennedys- my introduction to punk. I can still recall a friend telling me "You've gotta hear this guy's voice."

King Crimson- Discipline. Fripp's guitar got my notice. I didn't know a guitar could be played that way.

Frank Zappa- Shut Up and Play Your Guitar, all three albums. Joe's Garage was my introduction, became a favorite and still is. Everything else he recorded, TBH.

Megadeth- Rust in Peace. I basically fart out my speed metal playing like his.

Jimi Hendrix- everything. All of his career. It can't be overstated what his playing did for the electric guitar. But for thread's sake, Electric Ladyland.

That's as many as I can think of just now

I have to say, Sgt Pepper's got me into a lot of different music, very influential. As well as Revolver.

I picked up guitar early and most of my influences are related to that.

Though Midori and L. Shankar gave my sound a focus: recreating that vibrato. I've had people cross a crowded show to come find out if someone was playing a violin.

These are my favorites (not sure about influence though):

10. Queen - A Kind of Magic
9. Nirvana - Nevermind
8. Metallica - Metallica (aka, "the black album")
7. Misfits - Famous Monsters
6. Dropkick Murphys - The Meanest of Times
5. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
4. Black Sabbath - Sabatoge
3. Black Sabbath - Never Say Die
2. Alice In Chains - Dirt
1. Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears

Off the top of my head?

These records changed their respective genres…

Stevie Wonder - Talking Book

Marvin Gaye – what’s going on

Curtis Mayfield - Curtis

Faith No More – The Real Thing

Soundgarden – Badmotorfinger

Michael Jackson – Thriller

Grandmaster Flash and the furious Five – The Message

N.W.A. – Straight Outta Compton

NIN – The Downward Spiral

Death – Scream Bloody Gore
