Anyone else surprised Conor McGregor retired after Floyd?

I was certain it would not happen and made a thread to that effect.

There was very little upside for them.

They put all their efforts into making a star and then as soon as he became a popular name outside of MMA circles they screwed themselves.

That said if I was Conor I would be very concerned about spreading out such a payday. He effectively earnt that money in one fight but would be at risk of getting screwed out of his full pay day if the UFC hit debt trouble or legal trouble.

I think an increasing equity stake would have been the best idea. Not that it would be without issues.

Why would they release him?

they wont cause Viacom would give him a blank check and do a ppv with him in Dublin.

He hasn't retired.
He'll fight again this year if he doesn't get a serious suspension for the bus.

He's the legitimate LW Champ.

Because Khabib damn sure isn't the real LW champ. He couldn't even finish the #11 ranked fighter who took the fight on a days notice.

cant be the champ if the champ is to scared hiding behind twitter.

Khabib would also have to actually show up though. Don't get it twisted, Khabib's an amazing fighter, but he's pulled out of a ton of fights, and it wouldn't surprise me at all, if he ends up pulling out of a huge fight with Conor.

he showed up more times than conor since December

Khabib is beatable. Not by Conor, but by someone like Lee, maybe Ferguson.

Whenever there is a favourable matchup at LW or WW the Cunt’s lips will start a-flappin’ and he will get many millions to show up again.

Im not a McGregor fan, but if you think that Khabib will close the distance without getting caught you are mistaken my friend. Conor has amazing distance management and can punch properly, he may be a one trick pony but until all the other fighters learn how to actually strike, he has a huge advantage.
His only chance against Khabib is a KO in the first 30 seconds. He has a punchers chance and that is it. Conor is no fool. He knows this and the fight will never happen. At 2-2 in his last 4 fights, he will take no chances by fighting a top grappler like Khabib. One takedown is all Khabib needs. After that, Conor is gassed and its a mauling for however long it lasts. We will never find out. Too much Burger King chicken.

So floyd made a fortune without conor, how did conor do without floyd?

But yeah im not so sure. Floyd got 80 million for the canelo fight. Conors reported purse was split between him and the ufc. Dana has talked about conor having about 75 million - that includes conors ufc earnings and all sponsorship money. And im pretty sure Floyd's sponsorships will be worth more than conors as he has a long standing relationship whereas conor doesnt have the option of this.

Conor got that payday because of floyd, its not really possible to argue otherwise, and this is a post retirement 40 year old floyd

Floyd used conor to get the last big payday and easiest to get to 50-0

He'd be stupid to come back for anyone other than Nate. He should just retire and live happily with his family.

Khabib is too reckless trying to close the distance for Conor. The only way that Khabib ends up on the mat, is after McGregor puts his lights out.

You have to really hate Conor to think that a guy who routinely lands only somewhere around 30-40% of his takedowns, and who has gone to and past the 3rd round with such exemplary grapplers like Johnson and Iaquinta, is going to hit his first takedown and finish the fight quickly against Conor.

Say what you want about Conor, he will come back and flatline Khabib.
No. He will not ever fight Khabib. He knows better than his fans.

It’s about the type of loss that Khabib represents.

He beats the everlovin fuck out of people until they quit, or don’t. He doesn’t spaz flurry, landing nothing, until Herb Dean stops it, he doesn’t KO anyone for real, and he would absolutely refuse to sub McFaggot.

He would beat him like a dog from the first minute, making sure to keep the punishment going. Unlike Barboza and Johnson, who Khabib took mercy on, Conor has small balls, and he will be forced to tap to strikes, position or in between rounds.

His fan base can handle a sub loss, they could handle a KO as luck, but they would never, ever recover from the ridicule of watching him cower in a ball and whimper after offering his ass to Khabib like he did to Nate, this time being refused and beaten worse for being a queer.

The way Conor spends money he will be back eventually.
Or he just retires and works as a promoter, or does movies or, TV, or some other boring shit. I really don't care. He has options other than fighting but if he wants the big bucks then he needs to fight. Regardless of what he says, he needs MMA to stay rich.

Has he announced his retirement or is OP being a silly boy?

If he was a normal well adjusted human being he could live several lifetimes with the money he already has made but much like Floyd he isn't a normal well adjusted human being so Conor will spend everything he's made and be back in the ring sooner rather than later.
