Curtis Blaydes would get owned by both D.C. and Stipe.

DC has fought giants before. DC has always been shorter than his opponents (except for maybe Monson — but they looked equal to me). And DC always has a shorter reach than his opponents (again possibly excepting Monson). But thus far, DC has won all his fights save for the two Jones’ fights. And he’s won the majority of rounds against his combined competition.

So, him being a “man let” has not hurt him much. And he’s been fighting better than ever despite being “old,” so it’s not as if DC has been steadily declining and losing and getting busted up and is now ready for the rest home. He’s a top fighter with a stellar record who may well beat Stipe. Or maybe not. But his talent and accomplishments speak for themselves.

DC isn't fighting 'better than ever' he literally got beaten to sleep in his rematch with Jones. He couldn't make it out of the third round.

Volkan had absolutely no business in a title fight, but the division is paper thin.

Gus dropped DC like a sack of potatoes and took him to a gritty controversial decision.

Regarding his heavyweight run, Roy Nelson has a losing UFC record. If you fought Roy Nelson in the UFC, you had better than 50% chance of beating him just by way of showing up. Everyone beat Roy. Mir, have a look at his record in the last 5 years. Bigfoot has been knocked out a cartoon number of times.

It's an enormous step up in (heavyweight) competition for DC fighting Stipe. Blaydes would be a substantial step up from Roy and Mir.

Blaydes would beat dc but lose to stipe

This dude doesn't honestly believe he's ready for guys like DC and Stipe. He beat a scared post ubereem Alistair Overeem who at this point is a light heavyweight who blew himself up to heavyweight using steroids and HGH. That finish wasn't anything spectacular Alistair Overeem folded up and presented the take down. Had this been 2011 Alistair Overeem we wouldnt give a crap about Curtis Blaydes.

Alistair Overeem is still one of the best fighters in the game and I believe he will be back.

Kind of like how Bones uses roids.

"Two all time greats would beat up a fairly green contender!!" - TS

Thanks TS

You bashed AO pretty soundly to avoid giving Blaydes credit.

When all you really are is butt hurt Reem lost.

Man I will bet my house on blaydes against DC if they fight, DC NEVER beaten a big wrestler like him, barnett? hahah no way. Cormier is the most condecorated wrestler yes, but against a guy twice his size younger, more powerfull that doesnt work

Of course he would, but how does that define him at this point? He's been a positive surprise to the HW div. 27 with only 4 years of pro experience.
of course hahah lol, I will bet on curtis

I heard that Blaydes would absolutely ragdoll Stipe when they would train together. He's young, big, and a great wrestler. He would do fine.

Curtis looked amazing Saturday... Hit the gym hard and then welcome to the elite.

Blaydes would be competitive with ANY heavyweight. He’s got a chin and has developed great setups for takedowns.

Hunt also said on Ariel’s show this week that he was shocked how strong Curtis was, he said it a couple times.

I think he can beat both guys

owns stipe not dc.

I think DC would make him his child in the fight. Miocic probably sleeps him.

He is not better technically but this guy is young and way bigger than dc, dc never fought somebody like him.. I think you are sub estimating these factors
DC and Cain have been beating the shit out of each other for years, the size won't be an issue in the wrestling department. I'm a Cutis Blaydes fan but his striking still needs to improve for him to have any shot at DC or Stipe.

Bigfoot had just beaten Fedor. He then fought DC and lost.
Mir was still good then. Roy is always tough, win or lose.
Barnett was good.

Volkan was seen as a threat, much the same way Rumble was. Both guys were big punchers. And both guys were dangerous.

And DC is more seasoned and experienced now than he was at the beginning of his UFC career, obviously. He gained a lot by training with the AKA Gang. And he has shown little in the way of being physically degraded. He doesn’t snort coke, party all night with hookers, or debase himself in many of the other popular ways (unless you count gorging on Popeyes’ chicken!). He’s well preserved!

And outside of the Gus fight DC has taken little punishment; even against Jones he never really got a sustained beating; he lost on points the first fight, then got KO’d in the rematch, after a solid start. And Jones was cheating by the way; and Gus is a beast himself, yet DC ground out the win.

Well how Blaydes himself described it, they were fairly evenly matched on the mat. "When we wrestled, like I said, pretty back and forth. He would go, (in) I guess an hour practice, he would get two takedowns, I would get two takedowns, or maybe he would get one more, maybe I would get one more.” But he also said Stipe destroyed him in the standup.

Fedor came to America and EVERYONE walked through him.

Bigfoot - cool story. You know who else knocked him out? Cain, in his very next fight after DC. Then Arlovski, Mir, Hunt, Struve, and Nelson KO'd him too. This is of course after Cain knocked him out a second time.

Volkan was seen as a threat

If you were literally TERRIBLE at understanding MMA, sure. DC was -300 and that was extremely overvaluing Volkan because Jon Jones had just beaten him to sleep.

much the same way Rumble was. Both guys were big punchers. And both guys were dangerous.

Yeah, no. Rumble was a JuCo national champion wrestler and had already fought world class fighters multiple times. I'm talking multiple world ranked contenders in various divisions over years. Volkan is famous for beating guys you've literally never heard of for most of his career.

Day dreaming. Rumble dropped him like a sack of potatoes. Gus dropped him like a sack of potatoes. Jones literally beat him to sleep.

DC has taken a ton of brain damage when fighting high level guys.

Oh okay. I was just going off something I recalled reading here. Thanks for the article.

I don't know if he is ready. I feel like we never know sometimes. That being said if he beats Volkov I'm 100% a believer.

As a 3-0 amateur. I saw it and that wasn’t the case, I used to train at Strong Style, he suplexed Stipe a few times, his strength and wrestling was dominant, Curtis seems nice and doesn’t want to call out too hard. That being said Stipe killed him in standup, but that was 4 years ago... I will also say I love Stipe, he’s a beast!!! Would be a tough fight for Blaydes

no he would not. dc never struggles against anyone bigger than him unless they are kick specialist type fighter with elite takedown defense. gus dint h ee the power to match dc hence hw lost. jones did and he won albeit on roids.
