Dems to push more healthcare reform

Jesus Fucking Christ. That's a ridiculous amount of money for health insurance. Most people can't manage making payments like that, especially living in overpriced cities where the rent is too damn high. No wonder so many people take the risk and go into massive debt.
The only reason I don't say fuck it and pay the tiny penalty out of my taxes is because my Son has health needs and the insurance covers most of it. If it were not for the kids I would say fuck the insurance man.

Unfortunately, if the private health insurance companies disappeared a lot of people would lose their jobs. Like me...

You guys will have to be like the coal miners and bite the bullet for the sake of progress. :)

But seriously, wouldn't your skills and experience transfer well to one of the multitude of other insurance industries?

ACA was not a step in the right direction. A lot of people got horribly boned on that deal. My gf's premiums tripled and she had to pay a fine for not having insurance because she couldn't afford it.

I'd be ok with single payer possibly, but they need to have their ducks in a row before proposing it. It's going to be really expensive so they need to draw the funds from somewhere instead of just saying let's pass it now and figure out the details later.

When have they ever done that....

demanding action on five ideas: letting the federal government use its authority under Medicare to negotiate down the cost of drugs; enhancing Obamacare's tax credits and help for out-of-pocket costs; funding a federal reinsurance program; letting people buy into Medicare before they reach age 65; and creating incentives for 17 holdouts states to expand Medicaid to people making 138 percent of the federal poverty level.

Good. ACA was a step in the right direction but our healthcare system still needs big improvements. I'd like to know who would qualify for tax credits under the new proposal.

ACA has been fucking horrible. Not sure how you are so ignorant. Obama's plan was for Obamacare to fail. Then bring socialist healthcare system here.
Everyone's premiums have skyrocketed since that piece of shit Obama fucked us.

They don't, or they lowball the shit out of the cost. I literally have not seen anything that came in at the proposed cost. In Hawaii, we had a half built train platform near my house that they wanted to build and then just ran out of money.

What if we ........

Get a national healthcare plan going and everything else in america stays the same and we dont become Venezuela ? Think we could do that ?

Millions more people have insurance thanks to ACA. More people are getting treatment they need than before. Polling data shows that the majority of people with exchange plans are satisfied with their insurance. How are you defining horrible?

Costs will be astronomical as long as a for-profit middleman exists in the equation.

Not really. Health insurance is a low-profit business. The bigger factor in single payer bringing down total costs is the superior bargaining power that one main buyer has (the opposite of a monopoly) and a greater willingness to say no to pointless, expensive treatments. A problem with U.S. costs that wouldn't be fixed by better negotiating is the extremely high doctor pay relative to norms in other developed countries.

I'm fine with having private health insurance companies, as long as purchasing insurance is heavily subsidized for people who don't get it through their employer. Right now there are people who have to spend hundreds a month for exchange plans, who do not qualify for any subsidies. That's unacceptable.
Try $1500 a month.

It's abhorrent.

Nope. Slippery slope. First it starts with commie healthcare, and before you know it you're getting gay married to a Muslim tranny. Gateway drug imo.

In before “But what do Democrats even stand for?”

It feels wrong to click the like button and agree with you.. But there it is.
Don’t feel bad; I clicked the like button for @bobgeese in this thread.

Of course, part of the reason we have such inflated pay for doctors is that getting through four years of college then med school usually entails $250k+ debt in the good ‘ole US of A.

The only reason you have insurance is that you know with certainty that it's a better deal for you than not having it (whereas many others only, rightly, suspect it will). That means the problem is that your healthcare *costs* are high and your gripe is not at all with insurance.

Yeah, there are a few avenues for potential reform (financing med school, bringing costs down, importing dcotors, etc.). I think it's interesting that people hate insurers but generally feel defensive of doctors. I guess because people generally have positive interactions with doctors and a more-instinctive understanding of the issues involved.

Obviously it's not just a question of the roughly 20 cents of every premium dollar going to OC's and profits in the private model (versus about 6.5 cents under Medicare).

It is also the capacity a public model has to, in effect, dictate price. There are reasons physicians, for example, have lower salaries, on average, in Europe and Canada than they do in the US. And single payer is one of them.

The reason many US doctors do not accept medicaid is because they are reimbursed less for services than they are by patients with private insurance. But if a medicaid-like system is the only game in town, guess what?

Doctors dont need to be mini-oligarchs.

Docs in the UK still make 150k per year in their Marxist cuck system.
