Youtube and Facebook Invests $100 Million To Fight 'Fake News' In Time For 2018 & 2020 Elections

Sure, since you asked nicely.

Here's one during the election that Trump fell for.

Here's one that has been posted in the meme thread like 3 or 4 times in the last week.

Ok, thanks. I could see her saying that, so that os effectively misleading.

I would like to know the real statistics if those are false. I live near Detroit and I watch local news, and they feel pretty close, except i think a higher % of white murders could be white perps.

The media is seriously pissed off we didn't listen to them and voted for Clinton in 2016, now they are going to stomp out the market so that we only listen to them going forward. This is all about controlling people's opinions.

Correct. 100%

Private company, their rules. It's also best long-term for their platforms. They're going to hemorrhage their user base if they keep the reputation as cesspools of fake news. Hopefully this pisses of conservatives so I don't have to see birther, pizzagate, or other retarded theories showing up come election time.

That is what propagandists count on. They pick a false "feeling" that people have, and they convince them that it is not only true, but worse than they ever imagined.

The statistics he posted are completely made up. The source (crime statistics bureau San Francisco) is completely fake. They are just pulled out of thin air.

Here are the fake statistics next to the real statistics from the FBI:

- Blacks killed by whites: 7.6 percent (Trump's meme says 2%, reduced by 3x)

- Whites killed by whites: 82.4 percent. (Trump's meme says 16%, reduced by 5x)

- Whites killed by blacks: 14.8 percent. (Trump's meme says 81%, exaggerated 5x)

- Blacks killed by blacks: 90 percent (Trump says 97%, added 7%)

So everything was blown way out of proportion to make black people seem like they were killing everybody, and white people were not killing anybody. The idea of the meme is to push the false narrative that white people are just victims of black people, and black people are out killing everybody. Of course, the reality (which to your credit, you correctly predicted) is that the vast majority of white homicide victims are actually killed by other white people.

But whoever created that meme knew that a lot of people are ignorant to the facts, and that their prejudice would make them believe anything that confirms their prejudice. That's how effective propaganda works.

can't figure out if they actually believe that 12 Russian trolls somehow had more of an impact that all the major US media outlets combined.........

like surely when nobody is around, they have to admit it's all completely bullshit and they are just butthurt nobody likes them, right?

People have posted that in the War Room repeatedly like it was real. I bet @Seano still thinks it's real.

I think including Wikipedia articles will only lead to it being poltiicized with users trying to edit everything to a specific narrative. We will see.

If I get a dollar everytime I spot a blatantly fake news video from NowTHIS on my FB newsfeed, I'd probably have enough money to buy FB.

The biggest issue is actually that once people find out that they were fooled, they rationalize why they believed it. They say, "Sure, I was tricked, but only because it's not that far off, the idea of it is correct." It's even worse when it gets to that point, because that means they've really dug their feet in and decided that facts are not more important than how they feel.

How dare they not let me fill my brain with alternative facts.

Or as they call them “different opinions”

Some people need to believe that Russian bots on Facebook is why they lost the election so they can keep being condescending smug assholes who advocate for democratic socialism, top/down government control, and gun bans...because that isn't why they lost the election.

Why is that account not verified?

I disagree with all of this.

Even subtle both-siding is not subtle these days. We know which way the fakes break, predominantly, so we know who this hurts. It's not that one side will suppress more of the other side, it's that one side produces more fakery, and will then claim bias, which will also be fake news.

Fighting "Fake News"

Why does it sound so strange? Like Chinese government enforcing what kind of news is righteous for the population.

has any person in history ever literally chose a political candidate due to a meme on FB?

or anything social media related really?
