Range reports: Whatcha do this week?

Really enjoying PCC matches, even behind enemy lines in CA. Just working on being accurate and smooth for now, then work on getting faster on both shooting and reloading.

Now that I'm better at tuning my bow, without killing strings and cables, I'm actually starting to enjoy that part of archery.

Not this weekend but the following, Ill compete in rimfire 3 position comp, rimfire 50m benchrest comp, 200 meter centre fire comp and 300m fly comp, then spend the rest of the day sighting in and testing ammo for a hunting trip on monday

Good luck.

Went and shot my M1A. Gonna have to have my armorer at work look at it. Thing was shooting like 2 to 3 inch groups at 100 yards. From a bipod and monopoly.

Was just using PMC Bronze ammo, which may have had something to do with it.

That's all that ammo is good for.

Ok that makes me feel slightly better. I need to put some high end stuff through it next time see if the grouping holds up better. Hadn't shot that stuff and was l like "damn did this thing get bounced around in my last move and something got off."

I just grabbed it to take cause I have like 500 rounds of it from a gunshow purchase like 5 years ago.

Also need to tear it down and give it a thorough cleaning.

Yeah great for practice but it's definitely not match ammo.

While this isn't .308 here are some 5.56 tests with cheap ammo to give you an idea.

Pmc x-tac

Various 55gr "xm193" loadings

And for comparison, FGMM smk match ammo

Anyone saying they get consistent sub moa with cheap ammo like American eagle, pmc bronze, wolf, wwb, etc is lying. It's just not capable of it. There are other tests with these types of ammo that get the same results. At best you will see roughly 1.5 moa.

Thanks for the info. Need to pick up some match grade stuff for next time. I hadn't shot this rifle in a while and last time had to re torque my scope rings down with some locktite.

The time before that I did use match ammo and it was consistent on about 1 MOA or a bit less.

That's why this time I was like what the hell? Glad it's the ammo that's the culprit. But sad that I need to drop some dough on match grade ammo.

Spent x2 hours at the range on the fourth with a buddy. Was scorchingly hot but a lot of fun.

Could you post a pic of the bipod setup?

There's usually a slight tension on the stock to actin to barrel, it that's off it can toss rounds. Plus sometimes very dirty gas system can help shit up the groups.

If something replaceable is off Smith makes good parts

The cleaning tool for the gas system is basically a drill bit.

Hope it straightens out.

It's a JAE stock so I don't think the bipod is tensioning the stock.

I'll post a photo later when I get the chance.

It probably just needs a really good cleaning and some quality ammo to tighten the shots up.

Edit: took it apart and the gas system was pretty nasty. Cleaned it up and oiled all the needed parts so I should be good to go.

Like reroute said run some 175smk, but even that PMC should group better than 3moa.

What's your round count looking like?

Was shooting 3 round groups that would average 2 to 3 moa. Longer strings were about the same.

Only shot about 60 rounds and was there about an hour and a half.

Right on, run some different ammo see how she does.

I was wondering the overall round count, if the barrel is extremely fouled you'll get groups like 1-2 within an MOA, then one lands 2 MOA from that. You might take it back to ground zero, remove all copper and go from scratch.

If it's shot out it'll be much worse, it wouldn't group.

Shouldn't be shot out. Like I said, have it a thorough cleaning and next time I'll run it with some match grade 168 grain.

Its capable of 1 MOA or slightly less than 1 with match ammo.
