Mainstream music nowadays is mostly trash

I'm finding it overseas but it's likely the fault of the record companies in america not supporting real bands.

Japan is kicking ass in metal and hard rock and even pop but the Kpop has recently caught up to them.

India, austria, china, mongolia all have some pretty good bands.
I would say Kpop has took over Japan pop now. But I am finding recently with companies trying to export the sound to the west Kpop is becoming more and more generic and American pop/hiphop/edm/etc influenced, not in a good way.

Which is why I think a lot of people still really love Japanese music as it is currently going through a period over the last 10+ years where they are intentionally trying not to export it to the west and I think that's a benefit to be perfectly honest.

OP. Yeah most modern chart music is trash, can't remember the last song/artist I really liked and i am a huge pop music fan. Right now I get my fill from Kpop for light easy listening pop music.

The only recent rap song that was worth shit is Joyner Lucas, I'm Not Racist. But rock, metal and pop are bloody trash today.

I was amazed to see Coldplay and Maroon 5 are still going. I thought they would've been selling used cars or loft insulation by now.

There's no musician nowadays who is known primarily for playing an instrument.

After randomly hearing Der Kommissar by After The Fire for the thousand time I wanted to see how it performed back then. Astonishingly it only reached place 30th. This is the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1983, and it is full of high quality music with real heart and creativity behind it.

At one point i heard how people now think drake is one of the best rappers of all time.
I thought about killing myself for a bit.
Then i realized that this whole new generation is retarded and completely useless.
They are just gonna look for an AP for their phone that feeds them.

you can prove with science that Drake tonation is dumb

I concur Opie.

However the GOAT 80s song came out in 84.

Boys of Summer.

Fight me if you don't agree.

The funny thing is that when Pusha T made that diss track about him, despite Pusha knowing the song isn't going to go on any album or be played on the radio, in terms of technical prowess the rapping was objectively better than anything Drake has ever done.

Pop music has always had a lot of duds. But rock music is at an all time low for the most part.. at least the mainstream shit. No one plays instruments anymore.. it's all electronica. The only good rock that comes out nowadays isn't mainstream.

I prefer the stuff that came out back in the 70's-80's, but there was plenty of shitty music back then.

For some strange reason alot of the stuff that gets the most exposure often is the kind of stuff that doesn't stand the test of time.

I likin' it to fast food.

I remember looking at a list of the top tracks from 1980, 90% of them I'd never heard of, which is odd the amount I've researched into 80's music and when I did check them out I thought they were awful and it was clear why I had never heard of them.

Looking at the list in the OP though, there are some good songs there.

Bruno Mars, Sheeran.

I don't think theres a single song they've released I didnt like.

Mainstream music caters exclusively to women and homosexuals.

You should list some of the top tracks between 87-89. Its just as trashy but the upside of it was that it took time for people to sort out some of the trash and let some of the better tunes stand the test of time. You probably don't remember the shit they had like Kokomo, Every Rose has its thorns, Warrant etc

First, you have to realize that these are singles charts. People who are seriously interested in music don't care about singles charts - they care about album oriented rock. I was pleasantly surprised to find at least 3 songs which I like though. Twilight Zone by Golden Earring is a cool song with a cool riff. Photograph by Def Leppard is the closest thing to heavy metal on the list and while you can debate the merits (or lack thereof) of Def Leppard, Photograph has a loud distorted rock guitar sound with a cool riff and a catchy melody. The other song I like is Separate Ways by Journey although I prefer Stone In Live if we're going to mention Journey. Another song by Journey I like is "Who's Crying Now which has a beautiful guitar solo in the outro of the song. Mainstream rock not withstanding, Neal Schon is a hell of a good guitarist!

in order to stop the cycle of bad music you gotta be your own leader, and doing it requires that you take all the criticism and harsh comments that come with it when you put yourself and your music out there... and you have to have faith that someone will find value in it eventually https://www.reverbnation.com/joyhannush
people will say they don't like the keys you play because they are used to hearing songs in the pop keys... doing something different from the norm is now becoming discouraged by society as a whole, but if you reject the conformity then you can change it
