First Image for Star Wars Live-Action TV Series THE MANDALORIAN; Episode Directors Revealed
Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow and Dave Filoni are among the helmers that will direct
The Mandalorian, the first Star Wars live-action series.
The eight-episode show is bowing on Disney’s streaming service in 2019, with Jon Favreau exec producing alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson and Filoni.
Lucasfilm has been mum on details so far but earlier this week issued the following synopsis: "After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe.
The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."
The directors list showcases a range of filmmaker experience and breadth.
Filoni, whose longtime Star Wars connections go back to directing the
Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated movie, will direct the first episode.
Waititi is an actor who many consider made one of the stronger Marvel Studios movies with
Thor: Ragnarok. He helmed the well regarded mockumentary
What We Do in the Shadows and is now in post on
Jojo Rabbit, a satire set in Nazi Germany in which he also plays Adolph Hitler.
Chow has worked on a range of genre television, from episodes of
Reign and
Fear the Walking Dead to
Iron Fist,
Jessica Jones and
Lost in Space.
Howard is best known for her acting repertoire, such as the
Jurassic World movies and
The Help. She has in recent years branched out into directing shorts.
Famuyiwa drew acclaim for his coming-of-age comedy
Dope.
