I just got a blue belt in BJJ. I was wondering for all the black belts here. As you advance you just become more efficient with the basic technique.
It's kind of like boxing. A beginner will learn how to throw a jab but a pro knows how to use the jab.
I seen black belts role at my school...
Other grappling arts like sambo and I think catch wrestling does not have a belt system. There are pros and con with belt system.
Belt system is something to aspire to but I get why some people dont like it.
part of the reason why there is a drop out rate for BJJ vs other martial arts. BJJ doesn't want to become a MC dojo style where if a student sticks around long enough they get a black belt. Black belts suppose to mean something and not everyone will get it. I been practicing BJJ for a bit and...
Is it wise for higher belts to always smash lower belts? What I mean is if your a higher belt and could submit a lower belt fairly easy why go hard ? Why not teach the lower belt what to do ? I think it depends on the school you go to. Some school the instructors would advise the students to...
with a lack of submission the only advantage I see wrestling have is the standing grappling and take downs. Wrestle are not comfortable on their backs and would turn turtle .
I knew that there will be a gap but I didn't know it be that big. I wonder if I can reach that level. I hear that many people quit BJJ once they hit blue belt level. I think I understand why.
It's like power lifting. You set a goal to bench 200lbs. Once you achieved that you set a new goal of...
One of the co-instructor is purple belt. I'm a white belt with 1 stripe. All I can say is Holy Cow. I got smash and submitted very easily. It's like there is huge gap between me and my co instructor. Granted he is younger and little bigger than I am but still.
I asked him if there is one...
It's hard enough to just learn bjj but I find the lack of take down or stand up grappling is kind of frustrating.
For example. I spar against a pure wrestler. He was able to control me with clinches and take me down easily. The only thing I can do is pull guard but he would explode up . I...
I notice allot of the KOrean fighters are like this ..maybe all the Asian fighters are like this. No head movement and their boxing is awful. Maybe they need better trainers in Asia for that.
The Japanese kid needs to work on more defense or he be brain damage . He has a good chin but keeps fighting with his face and just goes forward. Needs to brush up on his boxing.
