    Grappling in Bohol, Philippines

Hello everybody, I am going to be in Bohol for about a week. Does anyone know of any gyms there and could send me an address. I would prefer BJJ, but willing to try other grappling styles found in Bohol. Thanks,

    Lessons learnt from ADCC 2015

Stalling penalties and dqs for stalling need to be given more frequently. Penalising guard pulling can lead to very poor, defensive standing battles. Advantages could have their place if their are arguments if to give points or not. ADCC should give a fair chance to different...

Head Grinding Reverse De La Riva Pass by Jason Scully

I have had it done to me before and it is certainly effective. I don't think its mean. Techniques that are mean are ones that are unnecessary, are just painful without much accomplished as a result. Skull riding being an example. The head grinding is useful to get the underhook as people...

SBGi Norcal hosting John Frankl Seminar July 25 and 26

I very much recommend going to his seminar. I have had many instructors due to various reasons and John is the best. He remember being shown techniques that were way ahead of anyone else using them. Like Ryan Hall, he is a conceptual thinker and make sure to ask him a lot of questions.

Disrespectful for BJJ player to enter Judo 'Newaza' comp?

If you already train judo regularly then I don't think its a big deal but otherwise I think it is disrespectful and sandbagging. Even if you are a white belt, you have 4 years experience which is more than what many blue belts have. As I white belt I was tapping judo black belts and I am far...

    In Bed With Lainne

Discussing LI is pretty boring as pretty much everything that can be said has been said. Lets go back to discussing how crazy Jordan is. Has anyone trained, know or know someone that has trained with him?

Roger Gracie, Carlson Gracie or Gracie Barra

The problem being that Roger is rarely there from what I have been told. Same for many of the big names.

Roger Gracie, Carlson Gracie or Gracie Barra

You now have 6666 posts. Anyway, you are right, I don't think he has portrayed himself well in the videos and I could understand if it would put people of training at Carlsons London which is a shame considering that its an excellent gym. If I was living in London again and wasn't already...

Roger Gracie, Carlson Gracie or Gracie Barra

He doesn't come across well in the videos but I have heard overwhelmingly positive things about him from people who have met him in person. Simon Hayes and Dickie Martin are two of thee other instructors and leaders of Carlson Gracie London. They come across very well in the videos, what...

Roger Gracie, Carlson Gracie or Gracie Barra

I don't know Wilson personally but I do know people that do and they say that is pretty much his personality. I do agree with him to a large extent as there have been clubs I have been to where the takedowns are almost not existent and they always pull guard. Its not good for the self...

John Danaher: Coaching High Performance Jiu-Jitsu || BJJ Hacks in NYC

Metamoris and the other submission only tournaments have actually given more legitimacy to points competitions in some ways as the submission rate is generally higher in competition. It can actually be quite difficult to submit someone who is only concentrating on not getting submitted even...

John Danaher: Coaching High Performance Jiu-Jitsu || BJJ Hacks in NYC

Im quite surprised about what he said about BJJ as a martial art. To me the martial art aspect is about getting control. Getting in dominant positions that restricts your opponents ability to hit you and gives you the ability to use your dominant position to hit them.

    [HL] Leandro Lo "p4p king"

Totally agree. I think Marcelo is pound for pound the best demonstrated in the gi and no gi. Before his injury, Rodolfo was the most dominant guy in todays competition scene. He makes light work and submits everyone apart from Buchecha.

    [HL] Leandro Lo "p4p king"

As great as he is, I believe he is not as well rounded as some of the other world champions. He is phenomenal at sweeps and guard passing. But his submission rate and take downs are not equal to the other world champions. Lucas Lepri seems to have the most complete game at light weight...

Is using your head under the chin a Di*# move

The only pressure techniques that I consider dick moves are skull riding and using the blade of your forearm underneath the nose. The former being worse as I see it as unnecessary. Saying that, I would usually use this kind of pressure with guys I know well and could take that kind of pain...

RYRON GRACIE (interview: metamoris, philosophy, family, GU, etc)

Gracie Jiu Jitsu as he describes it is based on challenge matches. One on one matches with no time limits. This does not reflect most street fighter self defense situations. That being said, I do believe they teach a style that is good for womens self defense. I like Ryron but this...

    ADCC 2015 (S

I might be wrong but I vaguely remember the earlier ADCCs being from a more diverse grappling background. There is only BJJ guys in that list. I will still enjoy it, its just a shame. It would be nice if Josh Barnett was invited. I very much doubt he would accept.

    Roger Gracie vs Barnett

In competition yes but not in sparring. I have it on good account that Braulio subbed Roger when they first met in England using a triangle when Roger was a brown belt and Braulio may have been a purple belt. It was a long time ago but at least I know it happens. I used to know one of the guys...

RYRON GRACIE has stepped up to replace the injured Cyborg Abreu to face Josh Barnett

In spite of the stuff I said before, I still like Ryron and Rener. They seem nice and haven't screwed anyone over that I know of. They just have differences in opinion to me about the self defense aspect of BJJ, the fight with Andre and support of Schaob. I like how Ryron and Rener are...
