The set up was pretty good in the final stretch with Mahoric and Pidcock forcing MvdP to chase but letting the sprinters back on after the Cipressa was the mistake.
Pidcock should have bombed the descent like Mahoric in 2022. He was the fastest guy down the Poggio. Pogacar is a great descender...
I'm not. This is the most difficult monument for Pogacar.
Something weird has to happen for him to win. Either he takes MvdP or a true sprinter to the line.
They allowed the re-grouping between the Cipressa and Poggio. That is where the race was done for Pogacar.
UAE:
Gassing it into the Cipressa with 6 UAE guys (that's all Pogacar has) pulling like it is the last kilometer, isn't going to cut it. They need something else. If it's 40 guys going into the Cipressa, the standard 'hard temp to the foot of the climb' isn't going to be successful.
I hate...
I am (or was) from the Ann Arbor area and used to follow the local running scene. He went to Skyline and IIRC he pretty much popped up at the end of high school. Sure, AA is a place where there is a lot of former world class running talent. I can remember Nick Willis coming out the mid-week...
Eze is a beautiful place. La Turbie (which they passed) is where the shoot out in the movie Ronin was filmed.
If you go to this area I recommend staying in Villefranche sur mer. Go into Nice for dinner or the day but hte riding out of Villefranche sur mer is much better.
I've done the Peille and Eze climbs. I've done the climb the direction they are now descending. It's pretty tough for an Alp Maritimes region climb.
The Col d'Eze from the coast side is not hard. You're basically ripping it and then taking tight turns in a residential area trying not to hit...
I don't understand Evenepoel. I'm sure I've posted it here before but the difference between U23 and pro cycling is that everyone can go twice in the pro peloton. The top guys can go 3 or 4 times so there are only 2 or 3 ways to make a gap stick. Crosswind, hard temp and then 3 attacks, or 3...
