If he wants a real run at the title, then tune up fights while he shores up his grappling.
If he just wants to coast in the top 10 and not take another shot at the title, then continue as-is and avoid grapplers for most fights to keep record looking good.
I mean, Kamaru talks about his own bum knees. It's possible that he's exaggerating. Why give away such a "glaring weakness"?
Odds makers don't take fighter talk too seriously for a reason.
It's a toss-up fight for me.
I agree that it's hard to gauge where Dustin is due to fighting Conor twice, who is maybe fringe top 10 at 155 in reality. Dustin may be a bit overhyped, but I don't think he's overrated if that makes sense.
Both skilled fighters seemingly at the top of their...
Askren is done. He said as much. You saw the shape he was in for the Paul fight. His athlete days are long behind him.
MAYBE he competes in some grappling only stuff.....and that's a big maybe.
He's coaching wrestling and spending time with his family. Beyond that, there is no "what's next"...
Was your point that fighters start losing and looking like shit after they lose to Conor, or that people think less of them after Conor beats them in order to discredit Conor?
I thought it was that latter, but feel free to correct me.
My thoughts exactly. Seems competent on the ground, but also seems like he would wilt under top heavy wrestlers (pure speculation of course)
His striking is definitely....awkward. Seems a bit sloppy and hittable though. Wonder how his chin will hold up against serious power.
Will be fun to see.
That's a bit unfair I think.
Aldo showed in his fights after Conor that he was in fact in a steep decline. There was no wear and tear from the Conor fight, a clean, fast KO.
Aldo looked very average in his fights after Conor. Hell, even before that, he looked like he was slowing down a...
While it was still impressive, I wouldn't say it was crazy. Timmy was always hit or miss and aside from his size and reach, wasn't really that impressive.
Also, I'm pretty sure randy was juiced to the gills that fight. He looked massive compared to his old heavyweight self. Getting bigger at...
Solid matchup. Great entertainment where both guys can shine. Should be competitive.
Neither should be sniffing the title after that fight though, no matter how dominant either fighter is in their match.
Hard head. That's it.
He was mostly a walking punching bag for any decent HW. I don't think he'd be top 15 today.
For a heavyweight, he didn't really have great punching power or mobility. I also don't think he had a ground game, but could be wrong there due to the fact that I only ever saw...
Most UFC PPV's do between 300k-700k buys.
UFC 264 is estimated to have done 1.8 million buys.
Dustin gets PPV points when he main events with Conor.
I'd grant him rematches until nobody was watching anymore and I would not care about the sporting aspect. Why not be rich?
Imagine a basketball player saying "My team didn't lose. All those shots from inside the 3-point line didn't count. Only 3-point shots are real shots. Anyone can make a layup".
Imagine that. Holy shit does that sound stupid.
I believe the main difference is that the Ref in the Weidman and Silva breaks was immediately sure of what happened and stopped the fight. Not much opportunity for follow up.
Conor went down, but he also didn't telegraph his injury. Hell, he may have been trying to ignore it to see how bad it...
It's a fun idea, but I think it goes even more towards entertainment than sport at that point.
Would change the whole landscape quite a bit. I think fights would get crazy but also sloppy. Who knows, this is all opinion of course :).
I understand it all perfectly well. They get paid based on their perceived drawing power. Mouths tend to drive that more than skill unfortunately.
Perhaps before calling people out, you should have a better formed opinion. That's all you gave. A super weak opinion based on your feelings. Great...
Dustin already covered this in a recent interview that was all over these forums a few days ago.
Basically - He's a prizefighter with a family to take care of. He wants the title, but said he would have made less than half of what he made for the Conor fight. He will pursue the title when the...
