    Pedro Carvalho

I know that when he was in Brazil he trained under Alvaro Barreto (a red belt who is now 75 y/o) for a few years.

If you knew then what you know now

Haha what's up man? Yeah I haven't been on SD for a while but I'm still plugging away at jiu-jitsu. My instructor (Cindy Hales) just gave me a black belt a couple months ago, an honor I feel unworthy of. Been 8 1/2 years since I started and it's absolutely crazy how fast purple and brown belt...

If you knew then what you know now

If I could turn back time I would have kept healthier eating habits, drank less alcohol, and kept in better shape. I have let work and relationships be an excuse to not train as much as I should. Brb going to train now.

    Tips to beat after-work fatigue?

Get more sleep. After work and before lifting, I like to eat some dark chocolate and drink a few glasses of water. Seems to give me a good energy boost without over-caffeinating.

Rippetoe gives his thoughts on Cain and Junior's S&C and his thoughts on S&C for MMA

You also think Eric Brown's advice and experience is worthless, so you're pretty much a lost cause.

Rippetoe gives his thoughts on Cain and Junior's S&C and his thoughts on S&C for MMA

Disagree. He is a big, strong person, but it's totally possible to do what he does just by training wrestling and maybe some random strength stuff like dumbbells and machines, without ever doing heavy barbell squats or deads. You underestimate the role of technique in his performance. You...

Rippetoe gives his thoughts on Cain and Junior's S&C and his thoughts on S&C for MMA

Honestly though. Of course Cain can fucking get stronger without sacrificing his cardio. He could just take whatever time he currently spends doing stupid shit (like leg extensions) and do the big three instead. Considering he doesn't do proper barbell lifts on a regular basis, he has a wealth...

Rippetoe gives his thoughts on Cain and Junior's S&C and his thoughts on S&C for MMA

If the 250 OHP were push press, I would have to agree with that, especially in the presence of PEDs. Like an NFL lineman should be able to hit those numbers easy. EASY.

Rippetoe gives his thoughts on Cain and Junior's S&C and his thoughts on S&C for MMA

Rip's not entirely wrong, if Cain were stronger, all else being equal, he would be an even better fighter. And I have no doubt that Rip could make Cain that strong, he's a solid strength coach. And leg extension machine is garbage. But Rip is not a conditioning coach or an MMA coach for a good...

    Endurance training for strength athletes

Lol I knew it! I knew something was wrong, because the only context I've ever heard of this guy in, is his own self-promoting articles.

    Endurance training for strength athletes

This guy seems like the exception that proves the rule. There's like one guy alive who can allegedly do this, I've never heard of him in any other context, and I'm already tired of reading about him. He also tells you to run with sandals on, wtf?

    Tight hamstrings

Romanian Deadlifts and lunges. Your hammies and glutes are probably both tight and weak. Tight hip flexors in the front can also contribute to this problem.

how would you improve group classes such as crossfit?

Having a small group powerlifting class would be kinda cool. Are there any gyms that even have such a thing? I guess Crossfit places used to have "Starting Strength class" back when Rippetoe was affiliated with them.

Squats are resulting in pulled Hams

That's usually called "butt wink." Anterior pelvic tilt is this: If the pelvis is always tilted forward like that in your standing position, the hamstrings tend to be weak, tight, and constantly stretched, leading to high risk for hamstring strains/tears.

Squats are resulting in pulled Hams

Anterior pelvic tilt is a likely factor, methinks.

Dropping weights to focus on BJJ

Popovitch lifts and is on the gear. Like others said, just lift to maintain what you have now, don't kill yourself with the weights while your body is still acclimating to BJJ. Also, don't use so much strength at BJJ. Relax and focus on learning technique and timing.
