1. Your point that flat footed kicking in MMA is an evolution of kicking to avoid takedowns is questionable. Watch the feet of round 1 in the second fight between DJ/ Cejudo. Possibly the two most skilled men to ever step foot on the octagon. The GOAT Dj, is clearly seen lifting the heel on...
Sure they're not terrible, But JCS is one of the greatest non thai fighters in history. They even renamed the old Jocky Gym after him. The divide in skill between the TUF guys and JCS is extremely wide. A simple google search will give you an idea how good he was in the day.
Small update on New Sporting gloves. The price quoted was 77 for the gloves and 55 to ship in norcal. So prices have bumped up a tad. Wish I heard about them sooner! 105 was a steal! Going to bite the bullet to try some authentic Grant style gloves. For any old timers who remember Clamp's...
I don't know any current fighters, but I do know Karuhat and at least 1 other thai fighter from Sylvie's Patreon series has taught the side teep, so it's definitely not exclusive to Samart.
At the thai gym I trained at we did 1s and 2s on the pads, 10s on each side beginning of rounds 2 and 3. And then finish off pad work with 50 on each side. Also alternating teeps until failure. 6 days a week. There's no special drill except to do it. A fuck ton of times.
As someone else mentioned DJ uses muay thai clinching transitionally on top of his wrestling game fantastically. Here he throws 2 knees in double collar and immediately counters Dodson own attempt at it.There's a reason no one engages DJ in the clinch anymore. His transitioning from wrestling...
Just ordered the rogues. I bought the wooden handles one for thai nostalgia, but they snapped where the rope met the handle after less than 2 months. Hoping these rogues last longer.
Whoops, major slip. How is the padding on the K's? Looking to splurge, and looking for a more firmer padding personally. I loved the original boon look, and the K's remind me of them more than the current Boon ones do.
To answer the original question, probably Cordeiro based on track record or Zahabi for his Sagat Muay Thai lineage.
I also want to chime in that Kirian is easily the most accessible high level coach in all of the Bay Area. I've trained at AKA and Fairtex in their prime. Both gyms used their...
I'm waiting to actually need a pair of thai pads, but I hear only great things about the Master K pads. I love the classic look. Also for consideration might be the booster thai pads. They felt pretty hard to the point of bruised shins while training in Thailand, but didn't hinder my training at...
I think it depends on what you want out of your visit. My first time in Thailand I basically did a touristy muay thai tour because I was a tourist with my girlfriend travelling around. Did little stints at Sitmonchai, Petchyindee, 13 coins, and some gym on Koh Phangan. Most gyms will give you...
The only drill Thais tend to do for kicks is repetition kicks. Everyday we started a round with 10 on each side, during the round were double kicks followed by a single, and end the session with 50 consecutive kicks on each side.
Personally I feel how you start the kick is more important than...
Disclaimer: I think you're a better nak muay than me, but I like to fancy myself as more of a fighter - coach with an eye for small details. Your meat and potatoes are all there, so my advice is mostly small tweak suggestions.
Lately in my own training I've been focusing on sharpening the...
I was at the Bellatorkb/MMA event. I paid 35 bucks for a signing meet and greet with Fedor, lower level seats, and 8 hours of combat sports. Needless to say I left exhausted and happy with money well spent. The kickboxing matches weren't top tier, but leagues ahead of the mma fights. Beggars...
Yodkhunpon shortcomings tie back into my original point that muay thai stylists seem to oblige the boxing a little more than they should. Especially the Sitmonchai style.
I'm basing my opinions less on the perceived potential of Yodkhunpon, and more on my perceived shortcoming of muay thai...
Obviously theres much more to Buakaws success in k1, but the point was the thais already practice a high volume of kicks so volume and conditioning shouldn't be an issue if they truly wanted to up their strike volume to win kickboxing matches. As questioning their kick conditioning was put into...
