hahaha No. While the Yan fight was super close, I'm not mad about the decision really. Rounds 1/3 were close enough that I don't fault a judge for going either way. So, win for O'Malley, congrats.
That being said, I think Aljo is a terrible matchup for O'Malley.
I gained some, yes. I knew he had good striking. But I was impressed with his TDD and ability to get back up when the TDD failed. I was also impressed by his ability to take big shots and keep going. He did not wilt under the pressure. Lastly, I was impressed with his interview after the...
Having a string of losses at the end of your career does not mean you were never successful. Ellenberger was legit for a while... wins over Jake Shields, Diego Sanchez (before he dropped off so badly), Nate Marquardt, and more. The dude had a respectful and successful mma career.
You don't see a difference between a lock, which generally gives time to tap out before damage is completely done, and a strike that causes instant damage? I don't think we can help you.
I somewhat agree with you, in that his prime will be short/might be over already. It would have been great to see him get more fights in. I'd say he wasted it, but he also made a ton of cash. If he does walk away, at least he won't have taken too much damage.
I think we need to see how he reacts to getting hurt before we can really comment on his improvement. He looked amazing against Cruz and early vs TJ in the first fight. It's when he gets cracked and tries to get one back that things go wrong for him. Last night really didn't tell us anything...
You make a good point. To go on such epic losing streaks and come back strong multiple times is pretty amazing. To keep that confidence and hunger to compete.
I think losses at the end of the career don't carry as much weight. These guys are WAY passed their prime and unwilling to hang them up sometimes. This shouldn't subtract from how amazing they were. But really... Nog and Stipe are really even in my mind.. imaging a match between the two of them...
Rampage looked terrible. I didn’t expect much really, but I did hope for more than that. I knew as soon as I saw him that this fight wouldn’t last long, but I hoped for a more potent offense from him.
At least I did predict a Fedor victory. I’m glad to see him go out on a high note.
I can't believe so many people are counting Fedor out. Both of these guys are past their fighting prime, neither has looked especially good lately, prime fedor > prime rampage by a wide margin. I have no idea what will happen in this fight, but I'll take Fedor by dec or late TKO
