A reminder why slamming out of the closed guard is not recommended.

yes, i agree. had i been a little quicker, i would have preferred to go to omoplata. this was actually the reverse armbar / violin armbar, where i am far more up on my side anyway. feels less risky for slams just based on my position on the bottom. this is also not from regular closed guard, but...

A reminder why slamming out of the closed guard is not recommended.

perhaps if i had asked for advice? i pointed out another aspect of why slamming is illegal. everyone knows bottom guy gets hurt. hey, here's an incident where top guy gets hurt. interesting information, that's all. if i had started my explanation with "oh man, i just got slammed, holy shit, i'm...

A reminder why slamming out of the closed guard is not recommended.

Do you think closed guard would exist in the SPORTS of BJJ and grappling if slamming was legal? And how many people would stick with those sports under those kind of rules? You guys are acting like you've never seen someone get picked up in a triangle or armbar before. Happens every day...

A reminder why slamming out of the closed guard is not recommended.

Just so we're clear, in the split second timing of being slammed, it's the responsibitg of the person who is being slammed to uphold safety standards? The entire incident took all of two seconds total. I'm supposed to feel responsible/bad that in the extremely limited time I had I wasn't fast...

If you'd bother to read, you'd have noticed I already had the armbar locked in and his slam was a response to that, to avoid tapping. I'm not worried about getting slammed on a cushy judo floor. In fact, I was completely taken by surprise because it is not only illegal but probably THE classic...

A reminder why slamming out of the closed guard is not recommended.

so i go to judo. new dude there i don't know, wearing a very bro-crossfit shirt. big dude, all muscles. we get to the newaza rounds. he's like, let's see what jiu jitsu is all about. i pull guard, he has no real idea what to do. i get the clamp right away and dig out the violin armbar. rather...

    Whats up with AJ Agazarm?

agreed, hype has surpassed reality. for a dude who's rep is based on wrestling, all the videos in this thread show his wrestling getting shut down completely. add in the douchebaggery and I ask, why is anyone paying him attention?

Best dvd for guard retention and guard replaces?

Not finding much via search. I'm guessing Ryan hall's defensive guard or maybe Braulio's invisible DVD on the guard, but what else is out there?

What's your opinion on IBJJF's no knee reaping rule

I take the sambo view- it's more controlled with reaping and ultimately leads to less stupid escape attempts. Plus it's a hard rule to enforce and guys will pull a foot into a reap and try to get the dq.
