Losing balance during over under pass

Yes, drive the knee down with your arm (watch out for the kimura). When you can get your hips on top of their knee you can hook the foot with your inside leg and drop your weight on the knee to straighten it forcibly, like Jimmy in the above video. Dogbars optional but preferred. I trap the leg...

    Gordon Ryan lately…

That $7M was gross revenue to BJJ Fanatics including sales tax. His personal net income after tax would be at most two thirds of whatever his split is. Probably more like $2M. Still good. Has he made more than $7M in total? (And over what time period? Who knows?) Sure, maybe, I have no idea, but...

Anyone here on TRT? Pros and cons ?

Yes, but men don't go through perimenopause. Are you saying that he's better off with low T and a reduced sex drive to match his wife's? While there's certainly some friction to be expected there, I don't that would be my primary consideration when evaluating hormone therapy.

Anyone here on TRT? Pros and cons ?

What does this have to do with TRT?

Weird question, is hip switching bad policy when someone is prepping for a tournament?

Everyone gets injured this way once, then you remember not to put your hand there.

    BJJ Tournament with no leglocks

"The BJJ community" is not monolithic, especially over decades. The old-school guys from the style vs style days are all mostly irrelevant. Who gives a shit whether the ruleset is called "BJJ", "submission grappling", or "modified Judo groundwork with a few techniques borrowed from Sambo and...

Ffion Davies annouces relationship with Gabriel Sousa (Update)

I've known Gabriel since he was 16. I have no idea what he did to deserve this, but good on him.

Are Judo throws executed cleanly on concrete... basically guaranteed to break bones?

I've taken high breakfalls on hardwood, which I think extrapolates to concrete. I have very, very good ukemi and used my entire bag of tricks to minimize impact. I made it through a 20 minute demonstration but still collected enough bruises to have trouble walking the next day. Someone who is...

How much sleep do you guy get (for those that are 40+)

    44. I absolutely feel the difference if I get less than seven hours. Eight and a half is when I wake up without an alarm. Getting enough sleep is the single best thing you can do for your mind and body with the possible exception of hydration.

Olympic judo spars Olympic wrestler in nogi

Not Cobrinha. He had a capoeira background.

5 Athletes Receive 3-Year USADA Suspensions After No-Gi Worlds

Oh, please. All of them. There's doping in fucking CHESS.

Should we get rid of belts in bjj?

I like belts as a symbol of seniority and dedication, much less so as a measure of who would win in sparring/competition. We should use an objective measurement of skill for separating tournament divisions.

Returning to BJJ after 4 years off.. advice?

Don't demote yourself. That's silly. Over a long enough time scale no one retains their peak skills even if they train consistently. That's just part of life. I've taken multiple years off for injury, surgery, and rehab. Personally, I was surprised at how little I lost. A few weeks to get back...

Serious Question: Did the Heel Hook and Toe Hold come Catch Wrestling or Jiu Jitsu ?

However these techniques percolated into BJJ or were recently re-invented, they aren't new.

I do not understand how this guy did not tap

I'm not denying his right to make the choice, but it was a terrible one.

There's nothing admirable about this. He's a moron.

Jiu Jitsu black belt unable to survive in simulated knife fight

This squares with what I've been told. I should have clarified that the squad was supposedly shooting 20k rounds a week EACH, not total.

    Marcelo Garcia Cancer Diagnosis

It's a little better than that. 70% five-year survival rate IF caught before metastasis. Most cases are not caught sufficiently early, hence the low odds. It sounds like Marcelo got an early diagnosis. He's getting treated in Seoul, which has the world-leading centers for these cancers. Fingers...

Jiu Jitsu black belt unable to survive in simulated knife fight

It sure smelled like trolling. On the other hand, I've personally seen some insane feats of marksmanship from him at distances up to 1500m.

Jiu Jitsu black belt unable to survive in simulated knife fight

I used to train with a guy retired from Delta Force. He said they'd aim for the left eye, and that center of mass targeting was for people who can't shoot. I asked how much practice you need for that and he said his squad would shoot about 20,000 rounds a week. I'm still not sure how much he...
