    women beating men thread

Great win for her, but I really don't understand why he didn't address the neck right away. It's like being put in a mounted armbar with your arm extended out and trying to peel off the legs. It seems like some odd submission attempt, but judging by the angle and the fact that it was Teens...

    BJJ Street Clothes/Gear?

Hey guys, I recently got pretty hooked on the Superdry (Japanese) brand of street clothing and that got me looking at BJJ street clothes. It seems like there are hundreds of brands out there that produce BJJ street clothes. Are there any good brands that produce BJJ/Grappling themed jackets...

Is it mandatory to be good at butterfly when you use x-guard?

Similiar to what others say, I don't really consider X-Guard to really be a guard. To me, it is a setup that you go to after the guard (open or butterfly or whatever) to open for a really easy sweep/takedown/back take. I am not that good at butterfly, but I do hit X-guard quite consistently, and...

Let's admit it. Jiu Jitsu is boring to watch, period

I agree, most BJJ is just boring to watch. There's nothing wrong with buttflopping or inverting, in fact, it can make it very interesting to watch, but when people are just not doing anything it makes it so boring and stupid to watch. It's like a soccer game with no intensity as usually there is...

JJGF rule set- pros and cons

I watched metamoris 1 and immediately I could tell there was a big flaw in the point system. What happens if you pull guard? You lose a point. But if you manage to get closed guard, you can just cross collar choke, attempt an armbar, attempt a triangle, and just reset. Boom, 8-0 right there...

Retaining grappling skills in an area with no grappling?

Haha thanks for the responses guys. For wrestling camps, they are generally meant for middle school and high school kids and are very short and are usually during working hours. For Judo places, there are none, I live in a rather rural area, there's not even a mcdojo karate place in this...

Retaining grappling skills in an area with no grappling?

I appreciate the comment. As for hours, as much as I like BJJ, I am not good enough to make a career out of it. My job requires me to work those hours. As for exercises, I was talking about workouts that imitate grappling intensity. For example, I have barely any cardio intensity, like maybe...

Retaining grappling skills in an area with no grappling?

Hey guys, I moved into an area where the nearest BJJ place is around an hour away. Normally that would be ok for a 1-2x a week training session, but I am also working 60+ hour weeks (weekdays 8AM-8PM), so the earliest I can get there is 9PM and all the gyms are closed. What exercises...

    Jiu Jitsu and hygiene

Can't you actually wash your clothing by hanging it outside in the sun? I remember reading somewhere that if it is really bright and not humid, you can just hang clothing to dry and the UV rays will disinfect it. That said, I think you need to leave it out for awhile.

Guard passing against fast, flexible, and slippery guys?

Stack and instead of passing to one side, lift them up, and slam them down. Virtually every single person I did this to gave it up immediately bar one person who nearly broke my arm in anger.

    Side Control Chain Attack Videos???

Where can I find some videos on side control attack systems? For example, with closed guard, you have the triangle, armbar, and omoplata chain. Are there any videos which chains various side control attacks together?

Giving too much respect when grappling with someone else

For me, against browns and blacks (I am a blue), I really don't try much. The browns and blacks at my gym are incredibly legit and me trying harder or going harder just leads to me dying more tired. There is a guy like that at my gym too, hes probably 220 lbs and is mostly muscle but he never...

    IBJJF Rules Book v3.0

im surprised peopel arent talking more about the 20 second rule for double guard pulls. What do you think is gonna happen now? I feel like a lot of it is under ref discretion. You can technically always be attempting a sweep or submission hold.

Why did people lynch Lloyd Irvin but remain silent about GB?

I would probably say that Team LI is probably a lot smaller and that all the competitors mentioned for LI most likely trained at LI HQ and were in close contact with LI himself. GB is all over the place and these incidents, while highly disturbing, doesn't seem to be interconnected to one...

Not improving (and almost giving up)

I guess this is just my experienced POV, but the small guys I go against are so annoying when they do de la riva and other more advanced open guard things. IMO, when you are getting outweighed by a lot (I am guessing you are sub 140, if you are the smallest person in your gym), you shouldn't...

No more gauntlets at Caio Terra's school...

This really reminds me of fraternity pledging. You can officially say "no hazing" and that pledging is an option, but those who truly gain respect will have to go through it. Of course, this is different as you have been training all that time, but its a tradition and even if there is an...

worldstar fight comps and self defense

Those slam KO's can be pretty easily avoided by sprawling and always facing your opponent. It looks like the guys doing the slamming aren't even wrestlers. As for boxing, I have absolutely no idea.

"Great" new throwing video for my judo friends!

seems to like to stretch details too. According to a health grades, he graduated from Loma Linda University for med school. On his linkedin, he puts MD after Harvard Med School and makes it seem like he attended Harvard for med school.
