Training and sparring with 14oz gloves for lighter weight fighters?

I think the difference between 16 and 14oz is less of an issue than the control (and power) with which you're throwing your strikes. I've done light sparring with no gloves or shinguards but we we're going to super chill and light (and have like 40 years of training experience between us). If...

Thor Hayabusa Gloves/ Safe for sparring?

Hey, I wanted to see what you guys thought of these gloves, as far as sparring safety is concerned. I appreciate the attention to detail but is the textured surface (especially on the knuckle/striking surface) a potential issue for sparring? Would it be more likely to scrape or cause abrasions?

    Tom Jones/Slayer Mash Up

My band mashed up Tom's Jones' She's a Lady with Slayer's Dead Skin Mask. So this is my first attempt at making a music video. I know it;s not great, but I if there's anyone that has knowledge about this type of thing I'd love some feedback. We recorded the song in separately on our computers...

    Shadow Boxing Tips

Been awhile since I created a thread here. Just thought with everyone training at home (for the most part) I'd share some ideas on how to get the most out of your shadowboxing. If anyone else has some other ideas/tips to add please do so in the thread. We could use all the variety we can get!

Sick of doing bagwork, do more shadowboxing and padwork?

The bag is pretty important but padwork is def my favourite. Do you have a set routine you do on the bag? If so, maybe switch it up and try some new stuff. Different intervals, try everything as a southpaw stuff like that.

    Teep Variation

This is how I did it forever, and then one of my first Thai coaches said it was wrong so I did it how you did at the beginning, flat foot (also this is how Samart says to do it so I thought I'd stick with it). Good to see it come up again. I think the other draw back is if someone re-directs or...

Basics - Fake Left, go Right (or the other way) Fake High, go low (or vice versa) Intermediate Both of the above (Fake a Left hook and go to the body with a right straight) Fake Long and Close Distance (think faking a teep and using the Thai hop for a punch or elbow) Advanced Switch Kicks to...

    Weight/strength training for striking

Here's a thread where I talk about increasing pucnh speed. Thee Peak Power Output is near the halfway mark of the video. Here's a quick overview for what I have my students fighter start with for weightlifting - spoiler: ditch the bicep curls and work compound movements. Stronglifts 5x5 is a...

    Weight/strength training for striking

Lift with speed in mind. Complex training and peak power output (geared for quick reps) are two ways to go.

    Heavy bag program

There's so many ways to use a heavy bag, a lot of it will depend on your goals, time availble, what else you're doing etc. If you're a Muay Thai/Kickboxer you can check out Damien Trainor's complete heavybag workout. I have a few bag rounds I've put together in a playlist as well. Also, I...

How to Throw Faster Punches - Increase Hand Speed for Boxing

Yeah, a huge component of speed is genetic. But you absolutely can maximize that potential genetic speed with proper training, or hinder it with improper training. That’s a fact. And I spend most of my day in a gym watching people train and many of them are doing more harm then good with the...

Lead Hook Variations and Different Uses

I made this video mostly because of a convo with Shincheck about using the hook to push people into the kicks, but also for those who are always asking about hand position or leg position. Let me know if you use any of these variations or if you have any questions:

    Please roast my padwork

real quick - sit down, rotate and extend on your punches more. There's some good drills I can recommend if you like for that. I think you should consider fighting a down the road a bit more. Maybe a year?

    Switching Stance on a cross/overhand?

I used to do it a lot but a coach I had told me not to, maybe I was being too wild with it? anywho, I started using it again after seeing one of my students use it very effectively - great way to change up the stance.
