Manhoeff seemed to be one of those fighters who seemed to have ungodly power but for whatever reason, didn't get the knock outs to substantiate that power. Pat Barry was another one like this.
It can be thrown to the front of the hip without the risk of injuring knees. You still get that interruption of your opponent's attacks, and you can sometimes spin them off their line if they were halfway through the kick when you teep their hip.
