POLL: What is your opinion on rules re. pulling guard in BJJ competition?

Something Riley Bodycomb had suggested was to have no points for takedowns OR sweeps unless it gets you past the guard. The idea being that if the guard is a neutral position, you shouldn't get points for getting into someone's guard.

Which sport has the best athletes? + more

This is mostly a meaningless question because athletic can't really be defined outside context but......not baseball.

    Scarfhold in BJJ

If you're doing Hon Kesa, it's because the guy already won the underhook battle and you need to get him flat again. Also, there is no universe where BJJ blue+ belts are better at escaping this position than competitive judoka.

    Scarfhold in BJJ

I tend to not think of them as substitutes for each other because you tend not to enter into them from the same positions or transitions. If i throw you with an over-the-back or lat grip, kuzure simply isn't available to me, and if i try to give up hon kesa to pummel for the underhook I'll...

    Scarfhold in BJJ

This. If you have control of the elbow and walk toward the head you should only be in danger of the backtake if you fall asleep at the wheel.

High bar vs low bar for patellar tendinitis

Have you actually been to physical therapy? There are known rehab protocols for patellar tendinitis and they don't revolve around just picking the right bar position for squats. Also, root cause wise, tendinopathy tends to be related to acute over chronic loading rather than exercise choice-...

My single , biggest problem in BJJ : Cardio

The drug you're on has that as a specific side effect- insufficient cooldowns can cause vertigo/light-headedness

My single , biggest problem in BJJ : Cardio

It could, but i think it's dependent on having a very compliant partner, a lot of time to drill/roll, and a relatively high level of skill. Gripping/tensing tends to fuck with cardiac output, so maybe not as effective for a low-skill player. For someone high-skill, i'd probably have them do as...

My single , biggest problem in BJJ : Cardio

Tabata is a pretty short-term solution- the original test subjects stopped improving after what....3-4 weeks? Also the power output per "rep" was like 500wats and most people can't even do that for 10 seconds. And the most common method of failing a workout was vomit. Which may cause...

My single , biggest problem in BJJ : Cardio

As to the OP Several confounding things 1) They have high blood pressure, which can be caused by a lot of things, like relatively small left ventricle chamber size, chronic stress, etc that can directly negatively effect endurance. 2) Real specific diet (much smaller effect size) 3) Drugs...

My single , biggest problem in BJJ : Cardio

I doubt he's depleted but pre-workout carbohydrate (even just tasting without swallowing in one study) consumption pretty consistently improves performance. To be clear, it's not a huge effect, but especially in endurance sports, I've never seen a study with much of a sample size show improved...

    Calling all Half guard players

The sweeps are the same but the leg hook makes every single dog fight sweep easier. If you have the hook they can't turn their hips toward you. They can't tripod to drive you down with their whizzer. They HAVE to put weight on you almost entirely over your hips.

    Olympic weightlifting for combat fighters

Would you have a transitional block where the athlete does a bunch of explosive med ball throws or something equivalent (Russian twists, landmine presses, etc), do it concurrently. or skip that stuff altogether since it's mostly similar to oly lifting? For someone who isn't a competitive lifter...

To the Athlete burning out on SS/SL5x5

Someone training the sport using an undulating structure (like most intermediate programs) will end up in the exact same place strength-wise as someone who takes time off for an LP, and will suffer less strength loss. If they're already experiencing burnout or something that would cause you to...

To the Athlete burning out on SS/SL5x5

TL:DR People playing sports concurrently (who are not youth athletes) should have undulating loading throughout the training week, and have some element of auto-regulation (because of the extreme variation in fatigue they may have). The particular rep scheme and exercise selection don't matter...
