    Opinions on Gi Material Belts

I've rocked a Killer Bee for blue and purple and I love them. If you are the type that likes their belts to completely break down, they aren't for you. They show a lot less wear and tear over the years vs. the traditional belts.

So is it normal to get whipped by everyone at first?

No. The average person that tries anything, especially jiu jitsu, for the first time is usually head and shoulders above everyone else in the room. Sound like this sport isn't for you.

    Yet Another BJJ Blog

Enough blogging and more training. If you actually loved jiu jitsu, you would show up to class more often. Missing a month for every week you've been going....are you the guy who asks mad questions about techniques that have been taught numerous times?

    * Ending Today * Reilly Bodycomb Training Camp Video Series (via Grappler's Guide)

I picked this up for the hell of it and I am finding myself really enjoying it. As I work my way toward my brown belt, I know that leg locks are what will hold me back, both offensively and defensively. While this set is no-gi, the conceptual ideas behind them are gold. And now that I am in the...

    Your thoughts on this sweep

Its a good sweep; kind of like a tornado guard sweep. The only issue I ever have with throwing the arm is they are still able to actively post. The kneebar is super easy to grab and if they keep rotating out, I put them straight into the honey hole. After that it is a leg lock of my choosing.

    De la Riva guard

It takes time to figure out the small details that you are overlooking. -Are you using your hook tight against the leg to turn their knee inward? -Is your free leg on the inner thigh of the far leg or the actual hip? This matters when taking into account your body type. -Are you focusing on...

    Triangle attacks.

I support the omoplata route, however, I would say it is rather low percentage as a submission but awesome for sweeping and transitions. Each time your triangle begins to fail, pay attention to what is happening. - If they posture up really hard, push off the mats and take the sweep into a...

Advanced waiter sweep options (deep half guard)

Thanks for this, Goat. I love the waiter sweep but my partners have been getting hip to it and really putting their weight forward. I always transition into the 2-on-1 position but never knew the important detail of changing the direction of the sweep. This adversity has helped me develop my...

BJ Penn Jiu jItsu Case Study (content request)

Same here. I use dope mount whenever I find myself in a reverse leg drag. The position is about patience and pressure. Unlike MMA, we can't use punches to force movement from our opponent so I use a lot of shoulder and hip pressure to get them to flatten themselves out.

How fucked up are your fingers?

Mine are pretty painful. Tight fists outside of sparring don't happen. I have heberden's nodes on all of my 3rd knuckles and arthritis getting pretty bad in the middle finger of my left hand. I am only 29.
