Anybody want some chinese Twins gloves??

Um, excuse me, those are the HONG KONG Twins, not the Chinese Twins. :P

    Buying cheap shin pads

I have the cotton/elastic ones, you won't need an additional velcro hook-and-loop on them. By the time the elastic becomes too loose to hold it properly in place, the entire shinguard will probably be falling apart altogether at that point haha.

Best Belly Pad, Price not an Issue

I have had very good experience with the Twins Special belly pad; I like it even more than Fairtex's. Those look stupid but they're actually pretty dope! A lot more practical and useful than I would have ever guessed before I used them (both as trainer and trainee).

    You're very welcome!

Why do traditional martial arts teach downward block against kicks?

TS, you seem like you're on a mission to discount the downward block as altogether useless without really having an understanding that is A PARRY for front kicks and for middle roundhouses that have missed. If you've watched any K-1, stadium Muay Thai, or knockdown karate matches, you'll see...

Does it matter which part of the knee you strike with?

Glad to be of service! In theory, yes. Although in the real world, "ideal" is rarely consistent, and techniques may change based on comfort and dare I say "laziness" as one figures out the "best" way to do a technique with the minimal amount of effort required.

What are the best judo gi brands?

Because the HCK was never IJF legal, and for the price you'd pay for a new one at the time (when the HCK double weave was still in production), you could get an IJF-approved judogi from one of the big brands. HCK was just never a really popular brand for judo, and was more well-known in BJJ...

Does it matter which part of the knee you strike with?

Right, because the knee is solely the patella, the quadiceps muscle belly extends over the femoral condyles, and the femoral condyles are a tiny part of the body. Please study your human anatomy before making opinionated assumptions...

Does it matter which part of the knee you strike with?

Thank you, it's always my pleasure. :) In retrospect, I would agree that some aspect of the patella is most likely going to be part of the striking surface because nothing in this world is absolutely perfect, but it should NOT be the main striking surface. As for the pads, they're not taking...

Does it matter which part of the knee you strike with?

What you fail to understand is that the patella moves. When the knee is brought into flexion, the patella moves distally in relation to the femur; therefore, when you land a knee strike, you must flex your knee to create an impact point AND to move the patella out of the way of said impact...

    It's time, for new gloves.

The lack of gripbar is no biggie, the leather in the palm will crease and form a "de facto" grip bar when you clench a fist!

What are the best judo gi brands?

What is it about the HCK that you hated? If you answer the weight, the thickness, and the stiffness, those are actually assets in a judogi vs. a BJJ gi haha!

    BJJ Gi in San Fran?

1.) Nor Cal Fightshop is just about the only MMA supply shop in the City. It USED to be an OTM but I guess their franchise expired. 2.) OTM Huntington Beach and South Bay (Torrance) are the only 2 OTM shops still in operation. 3.) The whole "Frisco" thing is more a generational thing than a...

Does it matter which part of the knee you strike with?

You need to strengthen your quadriceps to increase the dynamic stability around your knee to reduce the load on the ligaments around and in the knee joint, and also keep your quads loose to ensure that you're able to flex (bend) your knees enough to expose the proper striking surface (the distal...

Does it matter which part of the knee you strike with?

Definitely NOT the patella! Anyone that tells you to land with the patella is doing you a huge disservice! The patella is meant to be a bony pulley for the quadriceps tendon; it is NOT meant to take any impact or shock loading whatsoever; that's why patellar fractures occur so easily when a...

    Gi wash question

This is exactly what I do as well. The key is to let the used gis hang, NOT keep them balled up in a bag. That's Gi Black Death waiting to happen haha.

    It's time, for new gloves.

If you feel Top King is tight, then go for the BGV1. I would also urge you to consider the Twins BGVL3; it's about halfway between the Top King and BGV1 in terms of hand compartment tightness. Skip the Yokkao, they're overpriced for their (poor) quality.

What are the best judo gi brands?

Mizuno, Adidas, Kusakura, Mitsuboshi, Fushida, Fighting Films, and Essimo are all top-tier brands. Fuji is an economy brand through-and-through; it's not to say that their stuff sucks, but it's a lot cheaper than, say, a Mizuno, both in terms of price and quality. There's also a few other...

Kickboxing/Muay Thai liniment ? (what is it ?)

It's a topical analgesic, inflammatory, and rubefacient. Its active ingredients, methyl salicylate and menthol, are a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (think aspirin) and a k-opioid receptor activator and sodium-channel blocker (i.e. it dulls nerves sensitivity to pain), and both serve to open...
