I think Usman does it to the body quite a bit in his fights and it seems to be effective. I could be wrong but it seems like more of a snap with him than a push/teep. It's not a hard kick to throw but it's probably easy to defend because it's coming straight down the middle in your line of sight...
I don't keep up with grappling competition rules but it seems very silly to penalize someone for not going down into someone's guard who's trying to pull guard. That's like penalizing someone for defending a takedown. How could it be stalling when standing guard passes are a thing? I shouldn't...
I think he's saying that bjj as a sport has continued to evolve without strikes/ground and pound which is causing it to get watered down when you take strikes or self defense into consideration. Sambo for example allows for striking in it's ruleset, so as the art evolved through competition...
Never been knocked out in sparring but I botched a weed brownie recipe once by not using enough butter
I started freaking out, ran outside and jumped head first into the drivers side window of my truck trying to get inside and knocked myself unconscious
I had to explain the next time I went to...
Hey guys. I've been working on my footwork everyday at the advice of one of the coaches on my gym and more specifically I've been working on pivoting lately to create angles since I'm on the shorter side. I'd really appreciate some feedback and advice.
Well he said the target is the upper thigh but he said that you can also target the inside and outside of the knee. I don't doubt it could do damage to the knee. I think a regular side kick would do a lot more damage though I'd still probably include both in my self defense repertoire. I do see...
I'm curious what kind of results you'd get fighting southpaw with a lead leg side kick. Sounds like you might just be more comfortable side kicking with the right leg.
A round kick isn't the same as a side kick. You're just putting all that extra rotational distance and force into chambering the kick. I think gsp landed it because most guys expect a round kick but Bisping still saw it coming, got some distance and tried to deflect it. Not a bad plan to throw...
Thanks for this video. I'm really only starting to understand the clinch myself. I could see how the other guy was trying to off balance you to setup his knee strikes. He also looked taller than you on the outside but seemed to try to get a lower center of gravity when clinching. I hope that...
I think where the contention is coming from in this thread is that the oblique kick is being categorized as a knee stomp when it's actually just a teep to the leg.

Thanks. Makes sense and I was probably over thinking it. Doing a shuffle step with every punch was kind of new to me and it was probably more to drill footwork than anything.
I was hoping it wouldn't be that complicated. My coach did demonstrate a 1-2 combination where you don't do a full two steps on the straight right and instead you step with the front foot on the jab and move the back foot forward on the cross. He also taught me to step with the hook. I moved...
I started taking boxing and I'm learning to step with every punch including hooks and uppercuts. I'm trying to understand when you would want to step with a punch and when not to as it pertains to sparring and the double end bag. Obviously you'd want to step to close distance and possibly to...
Not really fat. I've never been a big eater and it was a struggle for me toI bulk up to 180 lbs over the course of many years for powerlifting. I lost weight going through a divorce and decided to take the opportunity to recondition my body for endurance instead of trying to regain size and...
