Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Becoming OSS (Open Source Software)?

The confusion here is one of medium vs. method. you can be shown an instruction information from sky writing, but the method of learning should never deviate.

Debate with controversial 17-year-old blue belt Gracie Combatives "head instructor"

No one under the age of 18 should be teaching anything. At most a 17 year old should be an assistant. That video needed greater mediating to prevent the monologues that developed. Rener needed a greater challenge against the points he was making.

Debate with controversial 17-year-old blue belt Gracie Combatives "head instructor"

The vast majority don't take up BJJ to engage in high level competition. one might even ask if BJJ should actually be about that in the first instance.

Oh boy - Gracie University Blue Belt Pretends to be 2nd Degree Black Belt

Who was it that spotted this in the first instance? That is the very important starting point.

    Any non-Gracie lineage here?

Just to mention, but from the English version of the Carlos Gracie biography, George Gracie would have been one heck of a man to learn BJJ from. I still say his is the great untold Gracie story.

"Training self defense is not necessary" Nic G on TWIBJJ #88

I suppose it could be argued that if your BJJ doesn't resemble Royce in early UFC, then you are merely engaging in a vigorous form of calisthenics and not true self defence.

OP, the day after my first Judo lesson, my whole body ached as never before [unless you count what that lady from Wales did to me] so expect some aches and pains from grappling lessons. FYI I knew a man with black belts in Judo and Karate and he said he only ever used Judo in actual fights. Good...

Surviving the First 6 Months of Sparring (Gracie Breakdown)

I wonder if a senior Gracie instructor from Torrance Academy would do a well moderated Q & A session here on f12?

New article gives alternative account of GJJ history

Some of you are like ungrateful children on Christmas morning. The Gracie family gave you the art you study, a fine way to protect yourself, a great way to stay in shape, a community of friends and possible partners, a world class sport and arguably this site via UFC and modern MMA: Are they...

New article gives alternative account of GJJ history

When I read the English translation of the Carlos Gracie biography, what stayed with me more than anything, was how much George Gracie contributed to actual fighting with Jiu Jitsu and how little his name is cited these days.
