Logan Paul didn't really show any boxing skill or knowledge in the Mayweather fight. He didn't really understand anything about inside fighting so he wasn't able to take advantage of the fact that he could bully Mayweather against the ropes and swarm him. He gassed himself out quickly throwing...

    Boxing in MMA

I guess. I just thought Woodley's fundamentals were lacking. I thought he would have performed better and demonstrated a greater understanding of boxing. That might be more representative of Woodley though instead of the state of boxing in MMA. Woodley has shown in a lot of MMA fights his...

    Boxing in MMA

I think the issue comes down to who is promoting that narrative. Some people have the aptitude to theorize about combat techniques or are willing to try out different styles to learn for themselves what works and what doesn't, others rely heavily on the perspectives of people that appear to have...

Rose Namajunas has some impressive boxing and might be one of the better boxers in MMA. She can attribute that to the training and coaching of Trevor Wittman. Wittman has actually helped improve the boxing of a lot of UFC fighters.
  5. RAFI BOMB

    Boxing in MMA

That is good news. I am not sure how recent that has been though. Part of the point I was making is that it could have been incorporated earlier. That is fighters didn't buy into the whole "boxing doesn't work in MMA" that they could have supplemented their training with boxing specific training...

    Boxing in MMA

Wouldn't the same be true for any specific discipline? MMA fighters do pure Muay Thai training but pure MT doesn't work in MMA. MMA fighters do pure BJJ training but pure BJJ doesn't work in MMA. MMA fighters do pure wrestling training but pure wrestling doesn't work in MMA. Unless you are...
  7. RAFI BOMB

    Boxing in MMA

That wasn't the point of this thread. The main point was arguing that MMA fighters would benefit from incorporating boxing specific training into their training regiments and trying to identify the best techniques and adapt them to MMA. That because of the popular belief that "boxing doesn't...
  8. RAFI BOMB

    Boxing in MMA

Untrue. I am both a boxing and MMA enthusiast and was making an observation. I started watching MMA in the early UFC days before it was a sport, I watched a lot of Pride FC then since around 2006 I have watched nearly every fight on every UFC event as well as some MMA fights from a few other...

    Boxing in MMA

Yeah I agree with that. I just think MMA fighters should be encouraged to learn from other disciplines so they can identify the best techniques and adapt them so they can be successfully integrated into MMA. I think with the belief that "boxing doesn't work in MMA" that a lot of fighters and...

That Bobby Green vs Rafael Fiziev fight was awesome. It was wild to see how well he has adapted the Philly Shell and the shoulder roll to MMA,

    Boxing in MMA

I think this might prove interesting to some on here.
  12. RAFI BOMB

    Boxing in MMA

The same argument could be had about any martial art that MMA derives techniques from. It would kind of be like arguing that MMA fighters shouldn't train BJJ because there is no Gi in MMA and there is no striking in BJJ. Or that MMA fighters shouldn't train wrestling because there are no...
  13. RAFI BOMB

    Boxing in MMA

Good points. I was thinking more of how that belief may have lead MMA and UFC fighters to neglect training boxing in its entirety. How they fell under the impression that boxing was ineffective and that they shouldn't train it at all. I think the result of this was certain coaches teaching...
  14. RAFI BOMB

    Boxing in MMA

Muay Thai might be a better foundation but MMA fighters are still missing out on a lot if they don't spend any time dedicated to boxing specific training. Neglecting it entirely works to their detriment and offers a competitive advantage to those that do allocate time to it.
  15. RAFI BOMB

    Boxing in MMA

That is a very relevant point. Unfortunately if MMA fighters don't spend anytime around boxing gyms or coaches then it is highly unlikely that anyone makes that observation and points out the corrections they need to make. As a result they take not actions to improve it.
  16. RAFI BOMB

    Boxing in MMA

I think for the majority of MMA fighters they can just make sure they spend time at actual boxing gyms. There are lots of decent trainers at all kinds of boxing gyms and they work with a lot of amateurs so they are more motivated by their passion for the sport than what financial success they...

    Boxing in MMA

This thread is a commentary on how boxing specific training had been actively discouraged in MMA for a long time and that that has worked to the detriment of MMA fighters. I don't know the exact origin but there was a quite popular belief for a while that "boxing doesn't work in MMA". It wasn't...

Shoulder strikes in the clinch are easy power uppercut KOs

Other fighters have used shoulder strikes before. It is just rare for a fighter to lunge in from so far out multiple times without their opponent making any adjustments. A shoulder strike is primarily used to either create distance or to stun an opponent or to do both simultaneously. A shoulder...
