    Warming up before class

I can understand a beginners class doing these kind of warm ups - shrimping, technical stand up, tumbling or whatever because flow rolling would be difficult for a newbie. So happy I don't need to do any of that stuff now lol

    Warming up before class

I'm just curious how your academy runs the warm ups? A few months ago I changed schools due to moving out of state and the new academy does just flow rolling for warm ups. None of that shrimping, light jogging, jumping jacks, planks, and whatever jiu jitsu related motions like my old academy...

How many of you have cauliflower ear?

After going to a Faria seminar, I went through a phase where I was using the over under as my go to pass. Got cauli within the first two weeks.

    Rochester ny BJJ

I trained at Nova while I was living in Rochester for college. Even though Eric isnt there anymore. Jason Plaisted recently got his BB from Roy Harris and is excellent. Nova has a bunch of talented guys and is definitely worth checking out.

    Anchor BJJ

Mike DeLuca is legit, Anchor is his nickname and hes a BB under Dedeco. Great guy with a solid group of students, the class size is on the smaller side, but you definitely get some quality training in.

Jiu-Jitsu VS The World Film Update

I'm just wondering - How much more work is it for the filmmakers to add subtitles to their films? Only for interviews or when someone is talking, no subtitles for background music needed. I'm deaf, so it feels like I'm missing out on a bunch of awesome jiu jitsu documentaries.

Who's the highest level guy you've rolled with?

Bernardo Faria. He rolled with everyone after a seminar, 40+ people. Obviously he was just toying with me in his deep half, I knew what was coming because that was the topic for the seminar and I could not do anything about it.

Simple but IMPORTANT Passing Concept by Jason Scully

This is great, thanks for the video! I'm definitely gonna try this approach. As for the home base, do you only focus having one home base for passing different guards, or do you already have a base set for each kind of guard the opponent plays? Idk if you already covered that in the video...

OMG you're a purple belt and you don't know how to do *this* ?!

I'm a three stripe blue as well and my takedown game sucks, I only have a decent single leg and that's about it. I could definitely be better with escaping from the turtle position, I don't get subbed from there but I'm almost completely shut down from turtle and when I do get out it only leads...

Where would you/where to train full time?

Can't go wrong with Marcelo's academy. However, i train at an Alliance affiliate so Im a bit biased lol. Rafael Lovato is also one of my favorites, however I don't know if he has any guys from his school that competes and trains BJJ full time?

It's time to talk about Gis.

I have the older Fuji Kassen and the tatami estilo 4.0 and 5.0s. The Fuji fits me best, it has that tailor cut feel to it while the tatami is a bit baggier and stretchy when it's wet. I Think I'm gonna buy another Fuji gi, has anybody here ever rolled in either the Fuji sekai or the suparito??

    Slick Back Take

This would be a great addition to my game, I love the north south position. Will drill this and try it out. Thanks for sharing!

Hate to have to admit it.

I've been training primarily with the Gi, and I'm about to start going to the nogi classes starting this week for the first time in maybe a year. I can see my guard being passed much easier and my defense being shit in nogi. Oh well, gotta start somewhere.

Do you follow the games of any lower belts?

I do. I'm a blue myself and I enjoy watching blue/purple belt matches so I can compare myself with them as far as talent goes. I also ask myself what I'd do in certain situations throughout the match.

Best places to train BJJ fulltime.

Dang freediving sounds so scary, how'd you do it the first time? Saying to yourself ok let's swim 100 feet underwater? much respect

Class etiquette: Showing up late to avoid warmup?

It's kind of annoying when people show up to class when we have just started drilling. They'd join in and we would have to stop and explain the details.

    name of choke?

Love it. It's really easy to pull off and makes for a good control position to set up other chokes if you can't get the guy to tap from the head and arm.

    name of choke?

Thanks guys. I was guessing the head and arm, but I wasn't sure. What was the thread title, do you remember? I'd like to read it.

    name of choke?

Also, for the choke to work, the trapped arm is closer across his neck. My hand under the neck goes out to the armpit/shoulder to make it tighter. I hope what I'm saying makes sense.

    name of choke?

I tried asking this in the "glossary of moves" thread and got no reply. Hoping my luck would be better here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ-aeiUb22c Only talking about :30-:40 seconds into the video, he applies the choke. Once the guy is flat on his back, i drop my near hip and finish...
