What Grappling Arts Condition You the Most?

I think it really depends on the level of performance and competition moreso than the style. I've been in Judo clubs full of high level competitors that go through vomit-inducing training sessions, and I've been in Judo clubs where kata-ballerinas only get physical when they try to close their...

Kenpeters8 is a pretty active troll. Don't bother.

Judo once a week - worth it?

Maybe. Personally, I think that a solid blue or purple belt that really starts to pay attention to developing a good, general purpose tachiwaza game would be pretty hard to handle.

Judo once a week - worth it?

Anectdotal, but I've won several bjj matches with a very fundamentally Judo skill-set. Throw, pin, keep pressure on until I can get a collar choke or armbar going. I've only competed in a few low-level bjj tournaments, but I've medalled in them using that strategy. The fundamental skills of all...

The attitude of your academy to ringworm/mrsa etc

A contagious annoyance. Knowingly passing it on is a shitty and childish thing to do.

BJJ- What's REALLY effective and ineffective in a real street fight ?

IF you're trying to teach everyone in the room the thing the guy is making a mistake over, you do it in front of everybody, as a learning experience. You were supposed to watch, and learn from, the second guy. Not take it is as a personal hazing.

BJJ- What's REALLY effective and ineffective in a real street fight ?

I would think that throw + knee-on-something + some sort of grip control on one or both arms is a realistic general framework a grappler would want to have for self defense. The throw lets you disengage and likely do a bit of damage to the attacker, a knee-on style pin keeps a measure of control...

    Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu no Longer Effective

It's starting to sound like the guys who hang out in the gun store spouting facebook 'warrior wisdom' posts at each other all day, honestly.

Just wondering. I was infantry myself. Not American, though.

    Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu no Longer Effective

Yes. It popped up a lot in Judo until it got banned, and I've trained in clubs where guys still do standing armbars in randori; but without as much drive to finish. It's a very effective technique in the right circumstances, but you have to balance that against the high risk of injury. If you...

    Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu no Longer Effective

I'm not moving anything. The conversation turned towards waki gatame, so I put up a video showing waki gatames in competition. I like to keep grappling in threads on the grappling forum as much as possible. That being said, the reason guys like Shinya Aoki can make waki gatames work against...

Just to get some more grappling into this conversation. Here's a waki gatame playlist. Training and competition.

    Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu no Longer Effective

Waki gatame was also heavily trained and used in Judo competition. I'd hazard to guess that the guys pulling it off against resisting grapplers picked it up from Judo, Catch, or one of the other fighting arts where you actually fight people.

Those people have a lot to gain from a widespread belief that Bruce Lee was the best Martial Artist that ever existed, though. They are making a living selling their knowledge base; if they can promote the belief that their knowledge comes directly from some ultimate paragon of fighting ability...

The difference between wrestler vs BJJ mindset

Yes. You can. If there's enough skill disparity the thrower can easily get the balance, get the position, and finish the technique. If this wasn't true, Judo and Wrestling coaches would be crippling newbies constantly, and randori/sparring at anything less than competition intensity wouldn't be...
