Yeah. It’s really heartbreaking. We all know a broken bone or some stitches is probably going to happen. It I rarely think about the possibility of something serious like this.
I don’t know if this is allowed. If not delete it. Maybe y’all have seen this and heard about it. I haven’t been around much lately, tied up in work. I was just talking with a friend in Ireland who told me about a training partner that got a real bad spinal injury training a few months ago...
Does that include the ESPN+ numbers? I don’t know what Combate global or Univision are. Seems weird they could draw like that in the middle of the night.
It’s rare that the fighter loses when they square up. More common for a sucker punch from behind to put a fighter down. But then you have their whole crew on top of you instantly and still usually get the worst of it.
Yes people think they can beat fighters. If you are at the bar with a known fighter it is almost guaranteed that someone will get some liquid courage and try to start something.
Sometimes the fighter talks them down, sometimes it turns out like that Joe Schilling situation.
I have actually been away from here for a few years. I just came back this week to see how much drama came of the Conor fight. But to be fair I probably am too big a fan to really ignore the personalities as much as I would like.
Yeah I was the same way. I still will watch when he fights. He is fun to watch fight. I lost respect for him when he fought Diaz twice and Alvarez but wouldn’t give Aldo a rematch. The cherry-picking I can’t ignore the way I can ignore their personalities.
I always enjoyed him on Theo Vons podcast. This clip from before the first Conor fight jumped out at my memory after all the kill talk from Conor. Dustin gets dead serious when Theo asks “would you kill him”.
Yep. I find Izzy very marketable. When he was on Rogan, he came off as smart, funny and cool in general. The UFC just sucks at putting the marketing machine behind the right guys.
They want an O’ Malley or Conor type when most fans would love someone like Usman if they showcased his back story...
Dollar for dollar I am sure he has done the most. But he also has 10x the dollars of other fighters. I would say Justin Wren has probably made the biggest difference through his charity work.
I enjoy watching him fight. I worry that he won’t have much of a career due to being made of glass. I generally ignore fighters interviews and avoid knowing much about their personalities. It makes them easier to appreciate if their fighting is all I know about them.
