Ever had to leave a gym you were happy training at, for personal reasons?

Yes, I have left a gym that was "good" for personal reasons. The reason being it was a pretty far drive and my work schedule did not align with the practices. Great gym, great training, great people who trained there but just did not work with the distance from my home and the practice schedule.

    B1tchy training partners

there are a toooooooon of egos in jiu jitsu, striking, boxing, MMA, etc. I would say, just make sure you're not the common denominator. it's possible everyone is bitchy, but just take a moment to evaluate your behavior to be sure. Maybe gently ask your partners or coach if you're being too...

Rolled with a purple belt in BJJ

Another note - it's better to monitor your progress among people more along your skill/belt level. Tournaments are great for seeing where you're at. Like others said, if you were submitting a purple belt now as a white belt, I'd be questioning that person's purple belt.

Rolled with a purple belt in BJJ

Yeah dude, jiu jitsu is one the most ego-defeating things you can do sometimes (or maybe a lot of the time). The difference between you and your instructor is mat time. He's spent a lot more time on the mats than you, and has developed enough skill, technique and experience to neutralize...

    Qualities of a 'Good' Student

Most important qualities of a successful student: Number 1: have a growth mindset. You have to be willing to be coached to improve. Number 2: show up, consistently. Number 3: you have to be comfortable with sucking for a long time and sticking it out until you get enough skill to have...

I would say then find a gym you like and get consistency in your training. It will help you develop a rapport with a coach/coaches and help you develop.

Getting countered off a Low Kick getting caught.

Also, to add a few more notes: Have an exit punch off your kick - e.g., a jab or a cross. Keeping something in their face will make it harder to counter you. When you are throwing your low kick, you can put your glove in their face to "blind" them Make sure that after you throw your kick...

Should knee kicks be legal in mma?

This quote came across my Facebook on this subject. It's a quote from an interview with Mike Winkeljohn, and which I tend to agree with:

Do you enjoy/hate sparring or fighting against unmatched lead stance?

I have no problem fighting Southpaws - I train with them all the time so I'm very used to it. It's a fun battle to keep your foot on the outside of their lead foot. What throws me off are people who are shorter than me and rush in to close the distance - that is something I'm learning how to...

Please critique my bag form (boxing)

Like others said, I would focus on your Southpaw then if that's your jam. I think overall there is nothing super glaring. Seems like you have a solid base of the fundamentals. The only thing I can't tell is if you're closing your fists or not when you're throwing a strike.

    MT injuries

Are you taking a day off to rest and recover? Many people underestimate and ignore the importance of giving your body a damn rest sometimes. Whether you are training for a fight or not, recovery still matters. Of course, seeing a medical professional is a good idea too.

Does Cross training grappling take away from striking development?

I know when I do a lot of one thing or the other - a lot of jiu jitsu or a lot of striking - I eventually get disgruntled. It's nice to have balance and shake things up. I love training, so I try to do as much as possible: MMA - 1x per week Striking - 4-5x per week Grappling - 3-4x per week...

I think that's up to you and how seriously you want to take it, as well as what your financial situation is. I know a lot of guys and gals who gave up everything to live and train at Jackson-Wink in pursuit of the same dream. It's a tough life, that's for damn sure. It helps to train at a...

Getting countered off a Low Kick getting caught.

This is one of my favorite counters to a low kick: catching them with a right hand (that's my go-to). I do it all the time. To avoid this, you have to work on getting your head off center. Likely you're keeping it dead on the center line and that's why they're able to catch you. You could also...
