I came back to class after a month off and my lower back (upper pelvis area) was insanely sore...
I was walking like a hunchback the first night and took about 7 days to progressively get better.
My hamstrings have always been insanely tight... but that day I could actually FEEL them...
I drive 35-40 mins to attend my BJJ classes. I rarely ever miss because I just love it. True motivation is there without trying.
Contrary to that, my “weight lifting gym” is 5 mins away and I never go. I did weight train consistently for 2 years before discovering BJJ. (Forced myself to go and...
Wow - so it seems the mystery of my original question remains!
The only rational thing I can think (aside from it being a legit ‘secret’ the rest of BJJ communIty somehow doesn’t know) is that maybe they don’t think it’s that important?
I still am baffled at how black belts can be awe-struck...
I know you are being sarcastic here but when I look at that video (added to my original post) along with the seminar attendee reactions I saw, that was the impression I had.
If that truly is a more effective way I just can’t believe it’s such a secret that other black belts don’t know it.
Thanks for that... so in your experience the “Rickson way” (of moving your head to the side) *was* new to you even though you already knew the main escape.... I guess that means most BJJ schools do *not* teach it that way, if it is known as the “Rickson way” :)
So there is some validity to even...
Well that certainly appears to answer my question then. It’s reassuring to hear you all agreeing :)
Wouldn’t have thought twice about it if I didn’t see a school full of people in awe.
UPDATE / EDIT:
Here’s an example I just found now for the first time...
Why is this way of doing the UPA...
I train under a Rickson BB and having a hard time resolving apparent misinformation about the upa mount escape.
We learn on Day 1 that the correct way to execute an upa is to trap the arm / foot, tilt head to the opposite side, and bridge the opponent over your shoulder (as opposed to your...
The only conscious symptom I felt was a sudden "pop" in the right side of my back while training. I now know this was the blood clot traveling from my leg to my lung.
I can't say my leg felt any different before that but it probably formed two weeks earlier when I drove long distance (14...
So I have a blood clot in my lung which is currently being treated by blood thinners. (3 months on this medication and the clot should be gone.)
Because I'm on blood thinner meds, I cannot do any impact activities. That rules out sparring during this time but I'd still like to train positions...
Thank you everyone for the input.
I cannot believe I haven't considered that my body has not been able to recoup due to training hard!
I'll be proactive about hydrating more. Sleep is tough as we have a 6 month old baby at home.
For what it's worth - after reading this I asked a nutritionist...
This year I have had the flu, a viral cold, and now strep throat.
I am 99% sure it's all from rolling at the dojo with sick people. (of course I / they didn't know they were sick at the time.)
I never used to get sick until I started training.
Common sense tells me it's up to classmates to be...
lol when you put it that way! I realize how that sounds... Truth is I really like this school and training is an important value for me. That's why it's messing with my head.
Can obviously visit other schools while traveling however I thought I'd check with people here and see if you all felt...
Interesting to see people bring up "competition results" as a benchmark...
That may be important to many but my school is not a tournament school and I personally prefer that.
There is a very popular tournament school I have visited but I've found they're not nearly as technical because they...
Maybe I am wrong but assume most people who spend 1+ years at their school are satisfied with the things you say (otherwise they'd go somewhere else?)
What I'm really wondering is, do most people feel that their school is "the best"?
Kind of like how most people who drive a car think "I am an...
I've been training for a little over a year now and noticed something recently...
I really love my school and instructors. But I have very little to compare them to.
I perceive their level of BJJ understanding to be truly "special"... and I'm wondering how true that really is?
For instance...
