Am I correct in assuming that, with this card being in Abu Dhabi and being stacked with Russian/European talent, it'll be scheduled to suit the European audience?
yep. That’s exactly what I’m doing and I’ll make no apologies for doing it. These brave corners are damaging the athletes under their care and are going to get someone seriously hurt. Boxing could teach MMA a lesson in this regard.
Only last weekend Carl Frampton - a two weight world champ and...
Looking at Calvin Kattar’s prolonged absence and the number of strikes absorbed during his fight against Max Holloway got me thinking that MMA really needs to learn from boxing when it comes to defending your fighter.
I can think of several other high profile recent examples where damaged...
Damage inflicted is the key determiner for judges. Gillian may have had too control but did nothing with it. Miranda did ALL the damage at the start and end of the round.
100% correct. MO was continually walking forward but was getting continually picked off. Bukauskas was always the fighter doing the damage - even in the second - and that’s what the judges are supposed to be scoring.
The Maverick fight was another case in point. Her opponent may have had lots...
Don’t worry, the whole GOAT obsession is a peculiarity of MMA. I’d definitely like to see Chandler matched well now though. Gaethje seems an obvious next step
Sherdog asking us to make sweeping generalisations again on the the back of one fight? Fine, I’ll bite....
Anyone who’s actually watched Chandler already knew he was a top class athlete/fighter who would hold his own in the elite.
Hooker is a quality fighter himself but tends to fall just...
I know the rules. I just think sometimes rounds are so close that any decision to award it either way ends up being fairly arbitrary and can often skew the fight. 10-10 rounds are far more common in boxing, even though the margin for error over individual rounds isn’t so great.
I scored the fight the same way but was left with the same overall impression.
As I’ve said in another post, I think scoring a round 10-10 is the answer. Had the judges scored the third round 10-10, we’d have had a majority draw and there would be few complaints.
Does anyone else think one of the reasons there are so many contentious decisions in MMA is because of the relative lack of drawn rounds?
Saturday night’s co-main is a case in point. The whole fight probably hinges upon a fairly arbitrary decision over which way to call one or two close rounds...
Try doing that after repeatedly engaging in collisions with 100kg athletes sprinting at full belt and then trying to wrestle them onto their backs.
Touch footy is - at best - ‘play sparring’ in relation to a proper game of rugby league - even at the most humble level. NRL and Super League...
