Do you still recommend starting strength?

I never did 5/3/1, should check it out. Have heard mixed reviews. Did you ever do the "Cube" method or whatever it was called.

Do you still recommend starting strength?

It's been cliche to say, but it's true, you can get strong on just about any program, at least as a novice to intermediate. I did the whole Brawn, Beyond Brawn, to SS, to Stronglifts all of them, but prior to my power lifting comp, I did the Russian 9 week program, and it worked. I'm in my...

Do you still recommend starting strength?

I think SS is pretty good. I've used some version of it, and do off and on. I think unless you plan to compete in PL, starting strength will get you where you need to be. Start with the Novice, then move into the intermediate that has power cleans and chins. You can google to find the...

Working adults, how many times a week do you train bjj/judo/wrestling?

I train about 2x a week, sometimes 3, sometimes 1, depending on travel and my kids's schedule. I'm in my late 40's, don't compete and am basically a hobbyiest, so 2-3 seems right. I think younger guys who plan to compete are usually 4-7 days a week.

    Anyone training BJJ without sparring?

I've done Gracie JJ for a year (got my white/blue self defense belt, i.e. "five stripes"), and now switched over to no-gi at a regular "sport-oriented" club. I'm in my late 40s and roll in class twice a week, and one hour of open mat. The good thing with open mat is you usually can tell your...
